This is honestly just a pita to get the seat apart. It's out but I'm trying to figure out how to get the upper seat leather off. The upper seat frame goes through holes in the leather "capturing" the leather to the seat.
Plus I noticed the seat lower section has "twist". The right side is lower than the left side. Not sure how to fix that part as the cables aren't damaged and the seat still goes up and down.
OK, gonna stop whining for now and head back out to the garage. Ugh...

Figured it out. There are these two almost hidden bolts in the seatback that release it from the seat base.

The law does NOT determine "right" from "wrong". They are unrelated.

If you put cheap parts on your car, you will soon have a cheap parts car.

MF Jones... I got it all back together. Both the upper foam and the lower foam were split along the frame where you drag your butt getting in the car. Also fixed the up/down seat twist (more of a lean really). I'm gonna have nightmares about hog rings for a long time. It's a whole different seat. It'll take me forever to get it to the "right" position for me.
Next time I could do it in a fraction of the time.

Where are the two almost hidden bolts?

They are behind the panel (the one with the storage pouch) on the back of the seat. You remove it and they are in the bottom corners a few inches above the hinge, almost vertical and behind structure.
Next time I remove a seat it'll be like this: remove rear cover, remove headrest, disconnect wire loom from seatback, remove seatback, then raise up the lower seat to highest position and remove it.

So..... Now that the foam is all new and tight on the leather, does it amplify your farts any louder?

Thanks. I need a new driver's side seat back for a 2000 540i and occasionally see really good passenger ones at Pick n Pull.

What Color do you need? I have a black seat ( 12/98 prod ). I want the heated element, but the leather is clean.

I really dropped the ball on that one...

I found it interesting that the heating element is stitched into (or onto) the leather. I didn't have to attach it separately.
