    problem with trunk shock

My trunk shock is getting weak so i bought a new one. However, when i put it on, it pushes up the trunk lid 1/2". It pushes it up enough it isnt waterproof anymore. I ended up putting the old one back on. I thought i saw there was a way to fix it, but my google fu is failing me. Ideas?

Maybe you just have to adjust the hinges down?

If you push down on that side, does the spring compress more or has it reached its limit? I guess you can't answer that since you pulled it back out. What part did you get? Where did you get it? What's the brand?

there is plenty of compression, it just pushes up the entire side. Could the hinge be bent? I will try to tighten to see if anything is loose.

I've seen aftermarket e30 hood shocks that are so overpowered they dent the hood. Could be the same issue here, but I think it's a bit of a design flaw on the early verts since later ones include dual trunk shocks.
