Question New to BMW; best practices for long car life?

    Hello all,

I just got a 2016 328i, my first BMW. I love how it handles and its character.

I use it as my daily driver, for my 1 hour commute on rural roads. As it’s not my first turbo engine, I know about warm up and cool down before and after a drive, and using good premium gas.

And, what else should I know?

What else can I do to keep enjoying this beauty for many years and many miles?

    Thank you in advance.

Just keep up to the maintenance ahead of time. Most of the time it's neglect that kills these cars.

Also the water pump on this car is electric and you have a liquid cooled turbo. The water pump continues to pump and cool the turbo after shut down, so the cooldown is almost a thing of the past.

Regular oil changes. I do mine every 5k, but a lot of people say 7500 is fine. I wouldn't go any further than that. I highly recommend using BMW oil filters, even if you have someone else other than the dealership change it. I have seen far too many aftermarket filters basically disintegrate and fall apart in the housing. Follow the maintenance schedule in the iDrive menu. Brake fluid is due to be flushed every 2 years. I think the microfilter gets changed at every other oil service, but once a year is fine for that. Air filter probably every 30k miles. I think spark plugs are due every 3rd oil change, which is about 30-40k miles based on BMW's schedule. Most of the stuff is in the iDrive menu, but the spark plugs, air filter, and microfilter aren't listed.
