Refinished the driver seat. I did not sand the finish all the way down, I just scrubbed it will some fine scotchbrite. I started with a small piece of cloth which provided a smooth finish but was slow. Then I switched to a paint brush which was faster, got in the crevices better but let brush marks in some areas. I'm pretty happy with the results now I just have to do the passenger seat.

Had a 50mph shimmy of course. Discovered the the front lower arms were toast. Out with the old and in with the new, I also added Powerflex bushings.
    KIMG0063.jpg
I also got the control rod for the rear sls and installed and adjusted the rear suspension. Hopefully that will put an end to the leaks.

Mind if I ask what kind of dye you used and where you got it?

They have all of the instructions there as well. I had a small heater in the car do to the cold weather.

Nice to see this coming along so quickly. Glad to hear you plan to keep the heated wheel.

I need to restore my seats as well.

Can't wait to see the Alpina wheels on it.

Missed out on the Alpina reps. Got the passenger seat restored and fixed the glove box handle. Look at the small pin I put in to prevent it from over traveling.
    KIMG0069.jpgKIMG0070.jpg
Next is to fix the seat twist. The driver seat bottom is twisted and the passenger seat back it twisted. Non of these problems are big but they just bug me. It's all just labor. Still waiting for a title?

Got rid of the phone and put a center tray in. Pulled the center console wood and the chrome is integrated, bummer. Have to fix some seat twist next. I almost forgot, the glove box latch is fixed which adds at least $5000 to the value.

Those center chrome pieces are easy to get out just warm up the bottom of them and they will pop out with almost no effort.

Well I was working on my seat twist and got side tracked by a phone call and left the key in and on. The battery was a two volts! The smart charger would not even try and charge. I put a dumb charger on it for a day and got it up to 12.2VDC. Then I put the smart charger on it in repair mode and now it's up to 13.2, I hope I saved it but the battery is on the short list now. Back to the seat twist repair.

I was there with my 01 the other day, I was finishing installing the center console, and the battery died. Took it to AutoZone since my tender wouldn't do anything even overnight, they told me it wasn't worth trying to charge it, but it charged up just fine lol I will be replacing it the summer.

Well I saved the battery, fixed the seat back twist and shampooed the carpets. Then I went on the inaugural drive and filled the tank for the first time, 22gal. It's so smooth and quiet that I can hear the A/C compressor like it was sitting in my lap. The rear is really stiff so I think the accumulators are blown. I really want to keep the car stock but SLS repairs don't come cheap.

I hate to say it but I miss the rumble of my V8. I'm going to change the exhaust and see if I like it that way. The car pulls hard and shifts solid and no light's on the dash, wohoo! It may go away as a low mileage trophy for someone. I'm still waiting to get my 740 back from paint and then this one will go. It seems like with all the leather and laminated glass it would be kind of foolish to make it noisy.

Here's the latest. Fixed the seat twist in the drivers seat so the seats are good to go. Pulled apart the right and left rear door panels to install speaker box(thanks Kouks) and install all clips. Got a MK3 for fifty buck so the radio and computer work, if someone wants to trade a 16x9 for a 4x3 with good wood trim PM me. Heated up the rubber lining for the coin trays and pulled it all out. Plasti-dip will be the fix or just noisy coins? Took it for a cruise(cops are not pulling people over for speed because of covid) and got it up to 120. Man that V12 is so smooth and pulls hard all the way.

You have pm. V12 pulls like a train at high speed. With the 2.81 rear, he will run @ 95 all day.

Factory floor mats. I would imagine that this car came with floor mats, where did they go? Who steals or throws away floor mats?

Well I'm back in town and going to get back to my baby. I have the accumulators for the SLS and I hope they are the last bit for that system? Searching for the wood for the center console and I may byt a full set or just a whole car?

The big question is exhaust. Part of me wants to keep it stock and part of me wants to hear the V-12 like I hear my V-8. There is a local guy with a set of eissemen but I'm not sure I want mufflers at all?

Well after all this time I am back at it on the 750. I managed to get the roof and hood painted so all the clear coat peeling is gone! Yesterday I managed to get the new accumulators in. Kind of a pain but it looks like the SLS is working fine. The ride was much smoother.

Well I got the sunroof seal on and I was planning on swaping the steering wheel to a wood one. I think I have a problem and I thought I would throw it out here before I brake something. The current wheel has a two stage air bag, so the connections are different. The older wheel has a single stage airbag. I don't think I can swap them without making the SRS angry, does anyone know?

You cannot use a early wheel ( approx 03/99 ) on a later car.

Following this thread. Some good stuff. I have a 2000 750il that I'm slowly rebuilding too. And I noted some of your remarks that made me go "huh". Mine rides really stiff and that small control armature for the hydraulics on mine is snapped. So need to get on that. Not sure if it's all related. And that battery/cat warming. I'd love to make better use of my batteries by dumping that system and using it for an audio project instead in mine. And also tinking with the idea of a change to the exhaust for some more sound from the V12. I think there are a few videos kicking around of 750's in Russia where it has been done (?) and sounds crazy.

I know you said you love your 740, but are you considering keeping the 750 instead? Something about a V12 I think. And unless it's a 740 shorty, I'd say build the 750 and keep that !!

If your SLS valve is not controlled by the height it will over pressure the system. If the rear is stiff after you get the system working the accumulators are shot, I drained a large amount of oil from mine.

I ditched the automatic switch and second battery, that system consumes power. No problems so far.

I like both cars for different reasons, I have put a ton of work into my 740. One will have to go some day but for now I have both. I'm looking for a car to strip parts and send to the grave so I can get the 750 up to snuff.
