Fantastic job with this car and an fun to read writeup! I hope you are the one who picked up that unmolested 740i in West Seattle listed at $600 on offerup. I almost lulled the trigger months ago but ended up with an E21 project instead. If you decide to sell your 740i, let me know. Thanks. Tim

No I did not, I haven't shopped on offer up. I was looking for a donor car for some good wood trim but never made a deal. I'm waiting for my son to get a job and a car or for my daughter to take hers before I add more cars to the fleet. Next car will be a manual.

Stuck in the snow so I did some polishing, used my new high lift jack to work the quarter panels over without having to bend over. Got the whole trunk lid as well, the more I polish the more I see wrong.

3M polish. They have a three stage system that goes from compound to fine polish, I am just using the last stage(Blue). After the hood and roof were painted I used the full system after wet sanding. I did some wet sanding on my M5 but it takes a while to clean it up with the fine polish. It's about $200 for the full system with pads. The bottle caps and pads are Black, White and Blue.

Man O man it has been awhile! Between shipping out, two E60 M5's and my daughter leaving for collage I just have not had the time. My last event was the heater hoses, one blew just before I got off the ship. I told my wife to park it and I would fix it when I got home. I thought the 740 was bad, O boy the heater hoses on a 750 will draw blood. I could only get the three to the heater valve but the return hose can be done later without all the fuss.
    KIMG0209.jpg
After getting all the hoses in can you even see them? It's like playing where's Waldo?

Would you happen to have the part numbers handy for all the heater hoses for the 750? I am planning to tackle this job but am unsure what the correct part numbers are.

    I was checking realoem:
    https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=64_0621

But there is apparently something called an additional water pump that seems separate from the aux water pump. Not sure if I have it.

Also, where did you pick em up? I believe a few of these are on backorder.

Well it's been awhile but the latest is a set of winter tires for the original style 70's. The Beyern's are the nicest wheels that I have and I want to keep them that way. With all the snow and sand they would get destroyed. At least now if it does go out I don't have to worry.

The response is a bit late but in case someone looks in the future? I just ordered a bunch of hoses because the PN and images are a bit confusing. The last hose, the return to the engine just got put on after waiting a couple of months.

Well I decided to tackle the valve cover gaskets, they have been leaking for awhile. It's a big job that requires the intakes to come off. I have been putting it off ever since I bought the car. It started missing so the first step is to reseal the intakes. When I pulled the fuel injectors four broke the tips off.
    IMG_20230622_133351.jpg
The valve cover gaskets were solid as a rock and had to be chipped out. I thought that was the worst part of the job!
    IMG_20230622_155410.jpg
With the intakes out of the way I decided to tackle the spark plugs. The best OE price I found was about $5ea, BMW wanted $14ea. All the plugs came in and out without any problems. The wires were another matter. I tested them through the cap and found #4 dead. At about $250 for each set I opted for locating some used wires.

With the wires there was a ton of testing and re-testing. I guess the wires are old and fragile but the physical connections are strong. Both 1-6 and 7-12 are the same besides the coil wires. With #4 testing bad I removed the #4 from the right bank to get one set back together. Then I ordered a used set and hoped that it tested good and I would pull the #4 out and put it with may original set.

The used set had a bad #2 wire os I opted to pull the #2 out of my set and combine it with the used set. Getting all of the wires just so in the wire tray is a real challenge. Much like every other part of the 750 engine compartment everything has to be secured just so. Every little bracket and clip must be in place to secure each hose, wire and plug. After Getting the #2 wire in and everything secured I tested again and #3 was dead. I pulled the wire and tested without being connected and the wire was fine. I tested the cap and the cap was now bad! I grabbed the used cap and cleaned and tested it and it was fine. So the used cap went on. Then I tested gain several times through the cap until I was satisfied that everything was good.

Then I carefully installed the 7-12 cap and wires in the car. For both the cap and the plug there is a distinct click when the wire engages. This is the hard part, make a tight connection but don't apply so much force that you break something. The only reason I'm sticking with the original caps is because they will be easy to replace if there is a problem and I need to get the car going.

Not bad at all, 130k miles. Just a bit of oxidation that's it. Brass so it's pretty robust. Now I just need a couple of fuel injectors and a day to squeeze it all back into place.

So I finally have it all back together. I put in the two new fuel injectors and then broke another one. So being that this is a Texas- New Mexico car a lot of the plastic bits are brittle. The short story now that I have 9 of 12 new injectors is just go to rock auto and get 12ea new injectors for ~$70 ea. In the end I spent more than that and it delayed the project by weeks. The small side fitting but be free to rotate from the injector in order to get the electrical connection in the exact place in between the intake runners.

After getting the intakes and injectors I had to sort out all the vacuum and vent lines. My advice after the fact is take pictures, take pictures, take pictures!

I sorted it all out fine but it took several attempts. All of the lines are molded so they can only really go in one place. The problem is whether it goes above another line wire or whatever or below, just to the left or to the right and it has to be in order. A picture would have shown exactly how to route each line and wire.

It started up just fine and ran a little rough, that's to be expected with the whole fuel rail out. After I got past that stage I was getting ballace codes on each bank. The V12 is a PITA because you have to look at each bank separately. After a few run cycles I narrowed it down to a bad MAF, WTF! Swapped backs and the code followed. Fortunately my son bought a new MAF for his 318ti with an M44 and the MAF is the same as mine. I swapped that MAF in an VIOLA! no more MAF code.

Now I'm just down to the tank vent valve code which I have replaced before but of course there are two! It all started with valve cover gaskets.

    9ea fuel injectors
    12ea spark plugs
    3ea spark plug wires
    1ea distributor cap
    2ea valve cover gaskets
2ea PVC boots to the valve cover
    re-seal intake gaskets
    2ea intake boots
    1ea MAF
New vacuum and tank vent soft lines

It all took about a month and it should have been a week. I love BMW's!

If anyone wants 2ea new BMW intake boots and PCV valve grommets you can have them for shipping charges. BMW was supposed to hold them for pick up and shipped them. When I showed up to pick them up they ordered another set and shipped them to me. I won't need a spare set for the rest of my life. If you have a V12 there yours.
