Mechatronic units

I've been told by the shop that they received a code that the TCM is bad and that is part of the mechatronic unit on my 2004 745Li. I found a place that will sell me a refurbished unit that will be coded to my car. Is this something that can be done? The garage I'm using said I have to buy a new unit at a total cost of $4300! the one on line is $1150.

hello, I had the mechatronics unit replaced on my 2006 730Li. I bought a brand new unit to avoid potentail headaches and having it done again. yes it has to be coded. and it runs well after changing the mechatronics. seems like the proper maintenance for this is to change the transmission oil after every 50k kms or so.

What did you end up doing? Did you get a remanufactured one or a new one? What were the issues you were having/are having?
