I am replacing the clutch fan and i noticed a black box dangling by a cord in front of the front fan just behind the kidneys. I think it might be for the radio or something but i just need to know where to bolt it up to.
make a pic, download it on a free upload service and post the link here. What are the cable colours?

more likely an old remote radar detector sensor. For speed not obstacle prevention.
This is why God invented zip ties, or baling wire. Since it's dangling now, it's been dangling for a long time, and isn't something that BMW installed, they don't dangle anything. If it is a factory part, then its mounting location has to be near by.

What is the clue that makes you think this is for the radio? It's definitely not for the radio.
Have you looked at www.realoem.com? Plug in your VIN and look at the electrical system parts. I looked for my car, but it's a '94 325iC, so I don't have it.
You did get an answer. Radar device. It may also be a Radar jammer. But on a 20 year old car, what brand is not easy to determine and it probably does not work.
Follow the wire to see where it goes and if it is connected to anything at all. It is not OEM BMW they mark everything.
