not indicative of the market at all...kind of crazy when you cld get an f40
Indicative of the fast and furious fanboy base. Did you see how old the 350k buyer was? Right in the f&f demographic.
I didn’t - younger guy?
A fool and his money are soon parted...

I mean, I think we can all agree that LTWs are cool.
But for that kind of money... I think we can ALSO all agree that aside from being a little lighter, there really wasn't anything THAT special about them.
At this point, most of us probably have cars that are better than the LTWs we're supposed to be worshipping.
The 96+ cars all had a 3.23. A lot of us run 3.38s (from the automatic cars) or higher.
The LTW wheels were 19.7 lbs (front) and 20.9 lbs (rear) (my understanding remains that the wheels were staggered despite the tires being square). There are a lot of good, light wheels out there, but an Apex 17x8.5 et40 weighs 17.2 lbs, or a 17x9 et30 weighs just 16.5 lbs. Instead of 235 square we run 245 square - or higher. Moreover, a car on the 17x9 et30s with 245s is about 3.5" wider than an un-modified car. Guys with flares are even wider and have wider rubber.
LTWs were lower - running European height springs. Is ANYONE not running at LEAST H&R OE Sports, if not coilovers?
The LTW motors were hand-picked. This is a little harder to really know, but isn't your average chip + M50 manifold at least making sure you're not down on power compared to a particularly strong engine? Not to mention that the 96+ motors had more 15 lbs more of torque out of the gate.
LTWs were early production M3s. Later cars had reinforced subframe mounts and front tower reinforcement plates.
The entire trunk kit is easy to duplicate for a fraction of the cost of the original parts.
...
I'm certainly not bashing LTWs - they're fantastic cars. But at $350,000, you're also not TOUCHING that thing. No modifications of any kind without flushing a couple hundred grand down the drain, even if that means failing to address inherent weaknesses or make easy improvements to the driving experience (camber plates, poly bushings, motor mounts, ltw flywheel, etc).
You're not buying the best E36 M3 you can buy - those of us here have those parked in our garages. This is just the most exclusive E36 M3 you can buy...

I agree. I think USA e36 m3 is ripe to be a great restomod car. So much potential
I watched it go down...couldn't believe how high the prices went! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PxEYsN4guQ
Those prices reflect the ‘Paul Walker’ previous ownership.
Will they hold those values?
All of the cars were incomplete in some form. Some had spoiler holes drilled thru trunk lid with no spoiler. Most if-not-all of the cars had the ‘Trunk Kit” (spoiler/splitter/strut bar/dual pick-up oil pan) missing.

I still prefer the E30.

My 3/94 build has the reinforcement plates...a very early build.
what the real market is like:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...lightweight-2/
Crappy high miles cars are 60 to 70. No story 10k mile cars are 120k. This bat car fits the market that I’ve participated in.
