I had a 2002 330ci, and currently have a 2011 328i that I really like mostly. The fueling leaves a lot to be desired unless I'm driving it in sport mode, or not in sport mode having a sprint booster turned on. I'm approaching a hundred thirty thousand miles and thinking about a newer 335, 2016-2018ish. Is there a reason I wouldn't want a newer 335i? Fueling? Major issues to look out for? I'm not that thrilled about some of the new technology and like the simplicity of my 2011.......
The N52 engine in your 328i was a great engine, with a few quirky things.
The 335i with the N55 is actually a really good engine, and overall, although you wouldn't believe it, the F30 chassis is a bit more mature and simpler in the electronics.
Not sure why you are saying it's 'fueling', as it has nothing to do with that.
It's a programmed delay in the engine ecu for the throttle body. The F30 335i will have a sport mode available that greatly increases throttle response, comfort mode is fine.
Once you know how the programming does throttle response in these after tuning them, you'd understand easily. And also why Sprint Booster devices are really bandaid fixes.

The only major pluses you’re get is more power, but the N20 and N55 engines are great engines. I know the N20 engine you can’t track without an oil pan baffle which the N55 doesn’t need.
I had a 2015 335i and decided to go with the 2015 328i just mainly because I do a lot of road trips. I had issues with oil cooling on my N55 where it would reach and sit at 275 degrees and on a hot day I couldn’t take it cuz 280 sets off “Limp Home Mode”. I believe I had a dud, but I’m not too savvy with N55s. I also had issues with throttle response on both models (compared to my E36 M3) since the F30s use an electronic accelerator pedal.
Mods were a lot more more expensive (in some parts) for the N55 but the N20 seems to be cheaper in a sense for Engine mods, Suspension mods cost the same since they’re basically the same car.
They’re both really good cars and I would make sure (if you buy a 335) to make sure it has a Oil/Coolant Heat Exchanger on it (little metal box in front of the oil filter housing), than I would say go for it! But there’s nothing wrong with the 328i. If you’re not looking for big power, you can tune your N20 to beat a stick 335i.
(Idk if I answered any of your questions, if not I’m sorry)
