    E91 lift gate wiring problem

I've got a 2007 e91 (wagon) and am experiencing symptoms, I think, of frayed wires in one of the harnesses going from the body to the top of the lift gate.

    - sometimes that hatch lock won't engage immediately when closing and the gate will bounce and close slightly ajar. This isn't due to the locking mechanism or alignment as I have replaced the lock and checked and rechecked the alignment
    - I have a 'bulb-out' indicator on the dash, but there are no bulbs out
    - most recently, when opening the lift gate the rear dome lights turn on, but about half-way through the lift they go out and stay out through the full lift - but then turn on again once I lower the gate past halfway.

My question is - does anyone have any experience with which wiring loom goes bad first? There are (if I recall correctly) three looms - one on the left and two on the right. If I can minimize the number of cuts I have to make into the rubber boots I'd appreciate that.

Any other general advice is appreciated also.

    Thanks!

    EJT

BMW doesn't have a very good track record with trunk/gate wiring looms since the early 90's, so take that with a grain of salt.

As that car is based on the E-46 gate system, the main wires go into the body on the right side of the car, and from all the opening/closing will bend/break the wires. Funny enough the wiper motor and such are the same as the E-46, they used a different arm.

I have the no sprayer fault right now, so I will be overlaying a wire instead of pulling it all out to fix just one wire.

Use the TIS online to find the colors of those wires to see which one is bad and just put a new cable in it's place.
