E46 - Weird Rattle - No Error Codes

Weird rattle on cold start and rev. Seems to diminish a little bit as engine warms. No error codes. Any ideas?

Check the engine oil level

Check for radiator cooling fan and shroud making contact with each other.

How many miles? Any recent work? Any indication of the approximate location of the noise? From my computer speakers, that noise is indecipherable. I can hear something, but it sounds more scratchy than rattle-y.

If the fan blade is contacting the shroud, the waterpump is toast. But it may just be the idler pulley bearings. Or it could be the belt tensioner.

Noise at startup and under acceleration. Sounds fine at idle. No error codes. I thought maybe the starter wasn't disengaging all the way but it's weird there is no noise at idle. Another thought was cracked flex plate but it looked fine when I had it off recently.

I'm gonna try to start it and run it without the belts and fan clutch to try and rule out any tensioners/belts etc.

I figured it out. I ended up having to shim the aftermarket starter I got on rockauto.
