I cannot get the courtesy headlights to stay on without manually activating the headlight high beam. As soon as I shut the engine off, the headlights go out.
I have done what the book says to no avail. Any help here?
Are you referring to the "pathway" lights which you activate when you shut the car down to help you see your way in a dark parking lot/drive/street etc...then they shut off?As soon as I shut the engine off, the headlights go out.
I have done what the book says to no avail. Any help here?
If yes...then you don't flash the high beams before turning the engine off. The car has to be in the "standby/ready state" (this is when you push the START button to turn the engine off)...but some control modules are still powered. THEN you flash the high beams...and this will initiate the pathway lights to stay on for the designated time selected in iDrive. At least that's what it says in the exerpt from my f06 and a g05 X5 owners manual below.
If you're thinking that you never have to manually activate the pathway lights...then you've misunderstood the concept as laid out in the owners manual. BMW's pathway lighting is NOT like a lot of American car manufacturers that come on EVERY time you shut the engine off. BMW went with a procedure that allows the driver to only activate this feature when needed. If you've parked in a well lit parking lot, drive, street, area, etc...then there's no need for the pathway lights (and having people hesitate to inform you that you've left your headlights on). But if you've parked in a dark area and require or want the pathway lights...all you have to do is flash the high beams after you've turned the engine off...and the headlights will stay illuminated for the designated time interval.
