Hey all ! Hoping someone can lend a bit of insight to an issue I am having with our newly acquired 2008 E70 3.0 (with adaptive drive - vin L001147)
The steering wheel has a pretty significant shudder when maneuvering in our driveway or a parking spot. Feels fine when driving, but at very low speeds, (or if just turning the wheel prior to moving the vehicle forward or back), there is a shudder in the steering wheel like the assist for the power steering is pulsing.
I did several internet searches, and on this forum, and the only thing people mention is x-fer case clutch activation concerns or the typical brake vibrations, or wheel/tire vibrations when moving.
temps seem irrelevant to the concern (no particular difference but right now in Ohio it's flopping between just cold and really cold...lol)
p/s fluid level is about 1/8" below the full mark...so very close to proper level. Fluid looks clean, but I am sure it has never been changed.
Just starting the learning curve on this one so not sure if steering is servotronic like my e39...(??? I'm sure I'll get some education over that one...)
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated....
Tony

If it’s a low speed wobble in the steering wheel at low vehicle speeds, I suspect you have a tire starting to separate.
Rotate front tires to rear and see if it goes away or else look at the front tires carefully for being ‘egg shaped’ or a lump in one area as you spin each wheel slowly.

Hey bms5 ! thanks for chiming in. It's actually there when not moving at all.... if you are in a parking spot, turn the wheel, (like setting up to back out or pull forward...) the steering wheel chatters. Also, if you are sitting parked, engine running, and apply a light pressure to the wheel (left or right) you can feel the steering system kicking back like it has a pulse in the steering system. it's really odd.
I sucked all the fluid out of the reservoir and added a fresh liter of pentosin. It's actually much better now with fresh fluid.
I can't believe that people don't change that $#!t !! (there are a LOT of things like this that need attention on this car...)
