Does any one know if the engine cover off of an E38 M73 part#11611741779 will fit an E31 M73? Realoem lists a different part number for the E31, #11611741954. The diagrams for each on Realoem under Engine Acoustics are identical, ie. pictures, the 5 other part numbers and prices. Thanks.

This thread https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...c-Cover-on-M70 suggests that the e38 m73 cover can be modified to fit, but doesn’t state exactly how
I actually have an M73 so it should fit but according to someone in another forum the emblem is reversed due to the rear opening hood. I'll have to see if that can be switched.

The E38 bonnet opens in the same direction as the E31 - and the badge is the right way up!

Yes, looks identical but now I see is that the E38 cover is longer at the rear than mine. Mine is cut squarely across the back at nearly the end of the last intake pipe. I see in realoem that the diagrams for the E31 show it extending back just like the E38 which is odd. I might think that mine was cut across the back later but the insulation in mine has not been cut and fits just short of the end while the insulation for the E38 is longer just as the cover is. All mounting holes and insulation mounts are identical. Well, might just buy one and cut the back and swap the insulation. My bet is that will work.

The E38 cover is longer in the back, the E31 is shorter because of the fresh air cowl.
The E38 cover can be trimmed.
