Going into the 8th year of owning the 725, still driving great, coming week, he's gotta get into trailering once again which he always masters like a dream. Next month, the inspections up, meaning he's gonna get some fresh oil and hopefully the annoying oil leak is gone after that too.
Last couple of months thought and looking up some X5s, the e53 generation, seems that the most issues of the 3.0d, that I am supposed to look out for is the gearbox, rear suspension. Does anyone know what I should be aware of besides transmission and suspension?
Just get a facelift e53 and you'll get M57n and zf 6hp26 transmission.

Replaced the right front speed sensor and got the last of the engine diagnostic lights off finally.
I continued to let it rot....sad times for my e38

Took the headliner out, figured out the drains on the sunroof were leaking...yay! Also took the other door panel off the driver side, double yay on broken stuff, lol.

I haven't been on here in ages, but I have a feeling I'll be a regular again for a while...
Today I ordered a boatload of parts for my Imola Red Sporty Shorty. I have been neglecting her for a while and I've decided to restore her to her former glory. Paint is a mess (clear coat peeling) and needs some external trim pieces but that's going to have to wait for better weather.
As for the interior... pulling out the rear seats and replacing with power seats I acquired from someone here a few years ago. Probably pulling out the parcel shelf in the back to dye it back to its proper color while I'm at it. Pulling the front seats out and replacing the broken map pockets. Pulling the instrument cluster and doing the pixel fix. Replacing the driver door brake so the door stops trying to remove my foot at the ankle, replacing the seat memory switch in the door so it stops trying to pin me against the steering wheel and replacing a few miscellaneous trim pieces. I think that's it for now.
And unless someone talks me out of it, I'll probably be getting one of those Avant 4 head units to replace the factory widescreen.
The only bad thing about getting her fixed up again is I can only assume the number of random strangers that approach me to make an offer on the car is going to start going up again. But I guess that's a good problem to have, right?
Cleaned and adhered the new headliner to the board and cleaned the A and C pillars and got them wrapped. stoned is a thing when doing those OMG.
I bought another one. 01' 750il chromeline with 104k miles. $2400 from Copart and after fee's and shipping $5000 to get it 90min from my home. I sure hope it runs and drives or I will be calling AAA. With treatment you can live with it the rest of your life!

Just an oil change for me, the other day. Got bopped in the head by the hood closing on me. And today when I was checking the oil level I noticed the hood drooping. It took a few nudges to the top to keep it in place, and felt like if any wind at all hit it would drop again. Know they dont hold up as well in the cold. So I guess those strut thingies are on the list now too.
Actually put the headliner into place. Hooked it to the rear window tabs for it to be held up in the rear, and installed it around the sunroof and got the handles and the motion sensor back in about it before it got so dag on cold outside to work.
It's been just sitting in the garage past week. I bought auto dimming mirror for it, so gotta install it next week.
