I looked at that one when I found mine. It's in the right neighborhood but the salvage title scared me away. Not a big red fan either.

Usually Mechanical means just that, a failed component somewhere making it not run or run bad. A mechanical status on that car could be something as simple as a bad sensor.. could also be something bigger like electrical issue... the body should be fine.

It's been dead around here, have not seen any e38s for sale. There was a black on black nice looking '01 sport for 500 bucks w. a bad motor but I slept on that and lost it..I swear they're getting more and more uncommon--same as 540i's.

Out of curiosity, is there a way to search Craigslist nationwide with one search engine? I think there was one a few years back but it was shut down.

I remember a “thingweb” CL search engine a while back that died. There’s still a couple ways. You can just type “2001 bmw 740i site:craigslist.org” into the search bar, that’ll get results. Also there’s searchcraigslist.org or searchtempest.com that’ll let you search a bunch of for sale sites. Probably some others too.

If the description is accurate, it can't be either of those cars. The description says black 740I The black car pictured is a long wheel base, and the 740I pictured is blue. Something (besides the timing chain) is definitely amiss there.
