    P fault

I'm new to the forum so I'm not sure if I was searching correctly for two issues I'm having. The first, my 2004 745Li after putting in park will not go back into drive or reverse. Display shows "engine must be running" I shut the car off and restart and the problem goes away. Occasionally I will get a "transmission range P fault"

Can someone point me in the right direction to find out what the problem is.

    Thanks

First step is to get a fault code scan done with a real BMW capable scan tool (not a generic Autozone code reader. They belong in the trash). Then go from there. There will likely be faults stored in the EGS control unit (transmission computer).

It could be the bridge seal between the valve body and the transmission, but it could be a number of other things.

The garage called an indicated that I needed a transmission control unit. Where is this located and is it difficult to change?
