Hey everyone, just picked up a 2006 550i. Very well taken care of. PO always used castrol during oil changes and kept the oil always looking clean. I was told it had a misfire on cold start ups that would resolve itself 100% of the time when you just restart the car. Which is true. But I’d rather fix it than leave it. Upon looking into it codes I found were P0022 P0050 and P0018 and multiple individual cylinder misfire codes. I started by replacing the intake vanos solenoid on bank 2 and erased all codes. After a 15ft drive codes P0022 and P0050 came back on. So I also replaced the intake Cam shaft position sensor just Incase the vanos was working properly but it wasn’t being read properly. After install the car did the same thing but I didn’t get a chance to drive and check the codes since it snowed. 🤬 Thinking that didn’t fix anything I thought I’d see if anyone had any thoughts? Also after the car has been warmed up a little when you start it the rpms will stay at 500 for roughly 3-4 seconds then jump up to around 950-1000 and fall down to about 700 and it will stay there. I was thinking this is possibly from the computer bypassing the vanos? Otherwise it runs amazingly and seems to still have lots of power.
First, P-codes are garbage. If you want to diagnose and repair your own BMW, get a competent scan tool that reads and displays BMW specific codes.
Second, if you're going to post the codes, ALWAYS post the description that comes with that code. I don't memorize codes, and am certainly not going to google them.
Third, if you have misfires, why are you changing camshaft sensors and camshaft timing components? Wouldn't you want to focus on ignition related parts like coils, spark plugs, and injectors? But that goes back to the codes you posted without descriptions. Are those related to timing? I have no idea.

What would be a better scan tool?
P0018 code is camshaft position correlation bank 2 sensor A
P0022 code is Intake A Camshaft position timing - over retarted, ( bank 2)
P0050 heated oxygen sensor heater control circuit bank 2 sensor 1
That’s why I didn’t look into any ignition related parts also I don’t have any misfires unless it’s a complete cold start and the miss is so bad it flashes the check engine light.
ISTA is dealer level software and it's what I use. There are a few other apps or laptop based ones as well.
If you've got codes related to timing, maybe it's time to physically check the timing.

That’s what I was thinking of doing after I buy the correct timing tools. I also seen that wear on the intermediate levers and eccentric shafts can cause this as well? I was gonna wait till the summer months to go into the valve cover if I had too since my garage isn’t heated.
That can cause intermittent misfires like you've got, but worn levers and shafts shouldn't set timing codes. The reluctor wheel is mounted on the cam and is only affected by vanos adjusting the timing, not the valvetronic. And of course there is no valvetronic on the exhaust cam.
