Both the E46 M3 and the E36 M3 are on Pilot Sports. I too have no problem in the winter.

I tried Pilot Super Sports on my e39 M5 in the snow once, I made it half way out of the garage and got stuck on flat ground. I had so little traction that we had to push it back into the garage. I gained a lot of respect for the design and intent of snow tires that evening.

If I had to deal with snow, my DD would be on Blizzaks.

It’s been years since I used Blizzaks, but the jiggle on the older version I had was miserable. Way more than an X-ice.

I promptly put the snow tires on it. It was an early year snowfall, I didn't want to put them on as it was going to melt in a few days. I think I has X ice tires at the time. They were good but soft. I've learned I like the stiffer blockier snow tires over the soft Blizzak style.

My first car was a 95 318is with a 5 speed and LSD..
Put it through 3 winters in very heavy snow..

Great car, best drifter I ever had..
I beat the dog crap out of that car on 2 tracks and climbing grass hills in fields and all sorts..

I still have it.. It's flipped upside down right now against a tree innawoods because that last bits worth anything on it are the trans and LSD diff I plan to pull some day before the tub gets scrapped..

Just brought a new to me M3 home and I haven't been able to drive it yet. I'm on a private road and from the last storm it didn't snow "enough" to get plowed. So, I was itching to drive it the other day and tried. I did a 180 spin in the road and that was the obvious hint to continue in that direction back home. But, got stuck right at my driveway, blocking the whole road. Wouldn't move forward or reverse, just spun the tires. BTW, my road and driveway are compacted gravel and the driveway is 500' long. I had to run up to the house, get my tow rope and truck, and pull the M3 back up to solid ground.
There's been a lot of melting lately and I hope to get her out for a drive today.
