Hi All - I had to replace my blower motor transistor and the blower motor in my '87. I tried to repair the resistor myself and had no success. Also, the motor was siezed so I bought a new one without the squirrel cage assembly. So my question is how do I get the plastic blower fins off the old motor and onto the new one?

I just gently tapped mine off with a 1/4 inch rod tapping the center of the squirrel cage right next to the shaft. You could probably use a piece of dowel or something like that.
Hopefully the cage isnt brittle to the point where it will be damaged once you try to remove it, proceed gently.
Im about to try the resistor once I figure out what part I need and where it's located. Mine works on MAX only, it was working 100%, but the car sat for 20 years and some debris had gotten in it. It's all blown out of the vents for now, so hopefully the resistor is the ticket.
Anyone have a link to the resistor?

You should look up this transistor;
2N3771G
It is rated at 30a thus twice the current carrying capacity of the original.
740ilDuke, I believe that the fan control transistor is located in one of the the fan clamshells, inside the cowling. That updated part Roger posted seems like a great idea too!

You'll need a stubby flathead screwdriver to make it easy to remove.

I just pulled the cages off my old one. A little heat, NOT MUCH, and easy pressure. Tapped them on the new motor with a small plastic hammer, be sure to check and mark the location of the cages for putting them back on.
