I have a 2000 540iT wagon and need two things.....
The rear license plate bolts to a plastic panel that attaches to the rear door with what looks like two 'almost square' rubber grommets (round on the top and square on the bottom), look at the attached pictures. These grommets don't appear on RealOEM.com or on any files in my local BMW dealer parts department.
Can anyone give me a part number for them, and maybe a place to get them, or maybe my dealer can get them if I have a number. The parts guy said that BMW reworked the files for all the older cars, and left out a lot of small detail parts.
The other parts I need are the two O rings on the spigot on the top of the rear air bags. Again, these are not shown on the files in the BMW Parts department. Does anyone have a part number for these O rings?
The 'O' rings will likely not be on a part breakdown. If you can get one off in good shape, then go to a place that specializes in o-rings, and get some - and tell us what the specs are : ).
Also, the clips that connect the lines to the top of the airbag are not a separate part - it comes with a bag only. don't lose or break them.
The plate bungs are also found on e38 cars, and should be available. I'll look at mine too.
I think the plug is - https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...&q=51131961243
Also, some of us run without the plastic filler - that's how the Euro plates fit. you can mount a different plate adapter - I have one from a r53 mini. I think it looks a little cleaner
Thanks, I would appreciate your input on this.

I just saw your your post, and when I look at the part, that is exactly what I need for the plug, Thanks. Where did you find that.
CPHES, on that RealOEM link you sent, it has the correct picture and a cost of 0.65cents. When I go to my local BMW dealer, they say $5.50 !!! It's not much for what it does, but I am shocked it is so different to RealOEM
Thanks again, and how did you find that?
Yeah, realoem is good, but prices vary, quite a bit in a bad way. My search skills are good. Honed by years of searching catalogs at parts counters in the pre internet era
Well thanks, I have a couple of them in the dealer on Monday
I plug in the part number to one of the BMW dealers online to get the actual price. According to getbmwparts.com you're getting off cheap. They show
which means my local dealer would probably be charging over $10.

CPHES, I just placed the license plate on the tailgate without the filler, and you're right, it looks better.
One of the plastic plugs that hold the filler on broke and I didn't fix it immediately, and the next day, the other one broke off and by the time I saw the missing plate and backtracked to find it, it had been run over. The center part that the license plate bolts to was intact, but the two outer 'ears' were broken off. So I neatly trimmed the center part of the plastic filler, and now have a great way to mount the license plate without the rest of the filler.
It does look better, so I'm staying with it.
