Expansion tank compromised on Sunday, 12/1 and the head cracked on my e46.
Prior to this incident, the car was in exceptional condition.
All issues were immediately and thoroughly addressed including things like replacing the kidney grills a few weeks ago with genuine BMW parts (rather than after-market).
Some service from the past 18 months....
Had a very subtle vibration at 85-90 mph, so brought it to Import Autowerks outside of Boston. They suggested a new set of front stub axles (Sep 2018) @ $1k per side. 6 months later, I had the same shop change the thermostat and water pump, along with a coolant flush. A month later I had some blue residue at the top of the expansion tank, so swapped the tank along with the upper and lower radiator hose. Car ran beautifully until the evening that it didn't.....
No explanation that anyone can identify for how it failed...but it did.
Have two wheelsets available including brand new Hakkapelitta R2s (on the car for 2 weeks and one trip from Bennington, VT to Washington DC) on Beyern wheels and an upgraded set of summer wheels that were new take-offs put into service summer of 2018.
No two ways about it, this car was meticulously owned and I had hoped and planned to enjoy it for years to come.
