I am in the process of building a cage for my E36 and am trying to decide what to do for the roof and rear section. The challenge is I'd like to run two seats in the car and I don't want to obstruct headroom for either person. I've attached a drawing I made up showing two configurations, the bars in question being drawn in red. I have seen other cages where there is a straight bar across the ceiling in the middle but that creates two rectangles and I'm not sure of the value that adds.
A is what I've seen most people do and what I would probably do if I wasn't going to be running a passenger seat. I think I could probably mount the passenger seat low enough to give clearance for the passenger's helmet but I know it's not ideal.
B is taken from some examples I've seen in rally cars and I'm kind of leaning in this direction. I'm just not sure if it's as strong as the x between the rear down bars.
Please note that there are lots of bars missing in these drawings, none of the connections are in any way a reflection of reality, and I don't want this to devolve into an argument. It's a sketch showing two concepts for the reinforcement of the rear section and the roof section, nothing more.
Does anyone have any thoughts or advice?
X between the rear mains and X on the roof. I have a ton of head room with the roof bars bent the way they are.
