I recently purchased a 2020 M240i convertible. It has 2 antennas; a shark fin and a short rubberized whip. I don't see the whip antenna on any other new BMW products including the 2-series coupe. I asked the sales guy what the purpose of the whip antenna was and he didn't know. Can anyone tell me?
FM radio. I believe the shark fin is satellite radio and cell signal for telematics (BMW assist, concierge, etc).

I think it might be time to find a new sales person....
The shark fin is for the GPS antenna and the whip is for AM/FM reception. For whatever reason, BMW didn't integrate it into the windshield glass. I suspect it is the same part as the Z3 had so you can swap it for a low profile version that is less noticeable.
