2007 x5 4.8is random misfire, cylinder 4 miss. maf related

a friend of mines x5 has a random misfire and cylinder 4 misfire. i swapped coils, same cylinders. read something about unplugging the maf. unplug it and runs great. replaced it. still has the miss. replaced it again with an oem from fcpeuro. still has the miss. has anyone encountered this before? next step i suppose would be look up maf connector plug pin out and do some testing. figured id ask around here while i got some spare time at work. thanks everyone

Stop messing about with the MAF it has nothing to do with the misfire. The only reason why the misfire goes away when you disconnect the maf, is because the valvetronic defaults to emergency running mode.

The misfire may be,

1. Faulty Ignition Coil
2. Faulty spark plug
3. Worn intermediate lever
4. Worn eccentric shaft

Not so common and usually associated with other faults,

fuel injector
Burned valve
broken valve spring
