Looks like it hose time again. Pretty sure I replaced this hose 3.5 years ago.
I'm thinking about not buying a BMW hose this time, they just don't seem to last, the hose is seeping the whole length, not the metal part.
It's real soft like a wet sponge.
I have a nice crimper for making AC hoses, think I'll just buy the correct hose and use the metal ends.

yes the pics show that its not the hose to metal crimp section thats the culprit
I have to do the PS hoses on the 7 and was wondering the same: is there an alternative? While the metal sounds good, I wonder if there’s needs to be a certain amount of flex as the reservoir is fixed and connected to the vibrating/moveable engine.
My thought was to do a silicone-rubber tape wrap but apparently there is swelling after 14 day exposure. So maybe an emergency fix but not a long term solution.
Wonder if there is something else available...
Howdy Matt! Long time, been spending time in IL on assignment... not quite as nice as LA.

I've been going with the cheap alternatives lately since the OE PS hoses pretty much suck and cost a lot more.
I’m sick of it, just like the window regulators.... So far, my 528’s hoses are amazingly dry, but both my 525 and 540’s hoses are wicking, no drips, but they are wet. Anybody think about fabbing up some custom Aeroquip hoses and fittings? Think I’m gonna look into this.

That would be the solution that solves an obviously weak point....

What PSI needed for these banjo lines? I vaguely recall the long, U-shaped high-pressure PS hose was something like 1,450 psi .... and priced to match.....
I'll look into it more tomorrow. Both hoses that go to the cooler have 12 mm OD metal tubing that the hose is crimped to, these are the low pressure lines.
The metal high pressure line OD is 15mm.
The V8 PS pump is rated for 130 Bar which is 1885 PSI. There is a restrictor in one of the lines.
Snotty, yes Aeroquip has good stuff, I've used some of there lines and fittings on my nitrous and hotrod builds.
Mine are leaking too. Tagging along for the ride.

On one of my e39s I ended up taking my old hose to a shop that dealt with high pressure hoses. They ended up fabbing a new one for me since I was in a pinch and looked way better than OEM. Maybe you're better off going that route next.

Last night I bought some parts (more than I need for one hose) from this company in Philly, PA.
https://www.discounthydraulichose.co...lic-hoses.html
The hose has a max working pressure of 2000PSI and a burst pressure of 8000PSI.

Sucks that shipping costs more than the parts.
I'll crimp the ends using my AC hose tool. You could also use the nice hose clamps that BMW uses on come of their hoses, can't think of their name at the moment.

Very nice, I love your work shop Jim. Can’t wait to see the finished product!
Hey Jim, the crimper tool is like $150. I guess this is the best way. Do you think an Otiker type clamp https://www.amazon.com/Oetiker-16700...077668&sr=8-26
would work on both high and low pressure lines, or just low pressure?

I needed the crimp tool to make the 12 AC hose crimps for my '33 so it was worth the investment.
One of my neighbor's is building a '36 (LS power too) so we share tool with each other. He's got a big 3 car workshop with lots more metal working tools than me.
The otiker type clamps are what I was trying to think of.
They should work fine on the low pressure side. For the high pressure side I'd use 2 or 3 of them.
You can also buy the otiker clamps at Lowes and HD in the plumbing section.
I'll use my crimp tool on the end that plugs into the cooling coil and an otiker clamp on the end that comes from the steering box so I don't need to mess around with the hard to reach banjo fitting.
Hi Manny, bout time you showed up here.

I figured you were in need of the crimper due to the 33 project! They make a nice factory looking crimp. I will start taking mine apart soon and see if only the low pressure hoses need replacement or if the HP needs replacement too. Its hard for me to see whats leaking exactly as I have the intercooler core and all the hoses and such in the way. I've been putting it off for a while now, but maybe over holiday break I can dig into it. The intercooler has its own coolant, so its more of a PIA. I may get a proper tool if I need to do all the hoses. If just the low pressure, then likely not.
Lookjng forward to your progress on this.

Once you start modding the car it does make servicing it a bit harder.
The parts shipped but won't be here until this Sat.
Here is the end of the last hose I replaced, this is the low pressure hose that plugs into the cooling coil. New Wilton vise too, 5.5" jaws.

U use a small cut off wheel to make the cut? Looks good. How will you handle the bends with the new straight hose? Just padded zip tie it or support it somehow on the tight spots? Wilton vises are nice!

The connection at the cooling coil is higher than the metal tube that the other end of the hose connects to.
I think I'll come off the top tube make a 360° loop up, then head down, make a 90° to connect with the bottom tube. If looping it up doesn't work I'll try looping it down.
It works in my head, hope it does in the car.

No, I bought it at BigR.
I’ve had hydraulic hoses rebuilt for my E32 at Napa as well as the local shop called, I kid you not, The Hose Man.

^_good name.
My parts came in yesterday. Even though I ordered the crimp collars/ferrules that were in the same page as the hose they are the wrong size. I ordered more yesterday, they are cheap, less than a buck each.
This hydraulic hose is way overkill for the car, it has a max working pressure of 2320PSI. This is the type hose you'd find on a bulldozer.
