oh man, I was wondering if that was where you were talking about. I went out to look at the black car and snap a pic but got side swiped by the wife with stuff needing to be carried in from the car and forgot. I will try and get one when I get home from work

google e30 power distribution block and see if those are clear enough. there are a few from here on bimmerforums that show up, if you would rather have them early today

Thanks. That helps a ton. Engine is in, but it won’t even turn over. Turns out someone put a jetronic plug on this harness. The harness is out of an 87 but it makes sense that it’s jetronic plug because it was out of an 84.
Lots of colors do not match with E30Zone wiki’s page. I found a more official looking diagram which I’ll try to match.

yup. we had to find someone selling an end on ebay to make ours fit. you could probably buy just the pins and plug them into the c101 for now, though.
I still have the diagram we made for which wires connect to which for the conversion. I should have gotten it out of my toolbox and brought it into work to scan and attach so you could use it but I will have to try and take a decent picture instead, later today.
No e30s again.
Eventually I will buy the right C101 end and solder it back on. The harness side I believe HAS everything the body side has/needs but the PO did some terrible wiring. Going to run a continuity tester around some pins. I am assuming the numbered pins on the connectors are accurate. Theoretically, colors don’t matter but the functionality on the pin does. I believe the colors changed year to year?

I sat down with both connectors, a screenshot of an EWD, and Excel and made a little diagram:

Finally got the engine started and running. The starter wiring was a bit wrong, but finally got it worked out. The bottom terminal is for the black/yellow wire coming from the fusebox. The top needs to be a ground. I did not have the ground on my harness, so I added one to the top shock tower nut down to the starter. Finally got it working, but the starter wouldn't engage onto the flywheel. Pretty sure the plunger solenoid was jammed or something, but we put the larger starter that came with the M20B23 block (in the car) back in and got it fired up. It actually idled pretty well, surprisingly.

Also had a small coolant leak to fix on the driver's side, underneath the intake manifold, which took forever but was finally fixed by tightening a hose clamp. The pedals and master were already in from a few days ago, so I tried to bleed the clutch. Still needs some more bleeding (I need a helper). I'd like to find a clutch return spring solution, but I'm not pressed for one. The shifter assembly was bolted up and the wiring for the reverse lights was finished. I don't have cruise control so I didn't bother doing the wiring the "right" way (wiring up the clutch return, etc switches). Just capped the auto shifter's wires together a certain way. Need to change oil again, since I used the wrong type. No biggie, I planned on replacing before driving more since I have no idea how long this block sat.
I also got the AFM mounted to the airbox, using superj's recommendations. I needed to drill two holes in the top of the airbox to get it mounted properly, but it is secure and I'm overall happy with it. The coolant expansion tank was replaced, and the sensor was wired up. The windshield wiper fluid tank was also fitted. Secured the relays, mounted the airbox, shortened a vacuum hose, shortened the master cylinder feed hose. I managed to kludge together a throttle cable solution. Not really pleased with it, but I realoem's diagram is incorrect or something. Either that or this throttle body linkage setup is weird.

I dunno why BMW used a rubber grommet setup when a threaded rod and a bolt would suffice and work for a long amount of time. I'm needing the pin, grommet on the cable, and grommet in the bracket.
Tomorrow is going to be wiring up the O2 sensor, installing driveshaft, installing exhaust, and replacing interior. So close, I can almost taste it.

Is your throttle body arm missing the plastic pieces that the cable goes into? I see the set up you came up with as a temp and it seems like you are missing the plastic pieces that hold the cable to the tb arm

I see where tou say pin and two grommets. Pelican parts has all the stuff available

Perfect. I’ll order those ASAP.
Still need to figure out the O2 sensor wiring.
Also, do you know what drives the oil light on the dash? Mine is on, hoping that it’s faulty or something is mis wired. There is the static and dynamic oil pressure light, but I’m not sure which one tells the dash light to illuminate. It flickers when I rev the engine, so it might be connected properly

As far as i know, the overhead light runs off the sensor right beneath the alternator, in the top of the oil pan. It can be a flat plug or a small round plug.
The pressure one, is on the passenger side of the block amd is a single wire that is in the harness for the temp stuff. It runs across the front of the valve cover and drops down to the sensor

yup. hopefully its just a wiring issue.

Hopefully!
I just ordered this from ECS:

Figured I could just replace the sensor just as easily as well. I ran some thinner oil through it initially to get rid of anything that could've gotten in the pan. I think it must've had a quart or so already sitting in it, since I drained about 6 out (doh!).
Wiring the O2 sensor I believe is gonna be a pain. I have two white, one grey, and one white wire coming to the connector from the O2.
From R3VLimited:
Wiring harness side = Yellow, brown, black, green
O2 sensor side = white, white, grey, black
Now I'm thinking, White and White can both be interchangeable with Yellow and Green
Grey goes to brown
and black goes to black.
Pin 1: yellow
Pin 2: black
Pin 3: brown
Pin 4: green
AFAIK the two white wires are for the sensor heater, and are interchangeable. Green would be power to the heater and brown the ground for it.

that's weird. if you get the connector pn from realoem, it doesn't find it that way?
one of the parts sites sells connectors also. I will have to try and figure out which one it was
No e30s again.
I couldn’t find the O2 connector on real OEM. I wired it up last night but it started smoking. Will investigate.
On the engine harness side, I had two white (or gray) wires in sheathing, a brown wire, and I believe a green wire. Forgot to snap pics In the moment. Pretty sure it’s the O2 itself that’s shorting out somewhere since it looks mangled.
The engine starts and idles okay, but will not really move Under load. I’m talking wayyyy slower than the eta.
I temporarily welded up the exhaust without a cat, so just downpipes and a resonator but it sounds like a lawnmower. Really hope it’s not off a tooth. I’m terrible at diagnosing how an engine is running honestly. I think the timing might be retarded, but I’m going to double back and check plugs. Would the lack of O2 sensor cause it to run this poorly? I’d think it would run better. Maybe the AFM being from an M30 and lack of O2 means that the DME isn’t able to adjust and run better since I was told no O2 means it falls back on a pre-programmed fuel mapping. Might swap the B27 AFM back on to see if that makes a difference. Still checking for vac leaks, but I don’t think it’s a vac leak. Would love to be wrong. Would also love to not have to tear engine apart again to fix timing.
Can I put a timing light on it? Any other ideas? I’ll upload a video of it running again in a second.
