    Washing the Engine Bay- E66

We had a catastrophic loss of engine oil- ALL OVER THE PLACE. According to what I understand from my mechanic an oil bypass valve failed and dumped the engine contents...think of it as a baby that eats too much and then pukes all over your new silk shirt.

The mechanical problem has been addressed, but now the engine bay needs to be cleaned up. Any cautions or concerns I should be aware of? Any products that work best? My plan is to take it to the spray-down car wash a few miles from home and do it there. He says I need to remove the engine cover and do that too.
