Just purchased '15 X1 28i. Tell me anything.

Living in a cold, snowy climate I have been a lifelong Subaru driver. But being totally uninspired by any of their post-2010 cars and absolutely tired of their universal driving yawns I was looking for something more fun yet with some of the same crossover/wagon utility. Not to mention that Subies are totally overvalued. Volvo, Audi, VW were considered. But the pre-SUV X1 body style piqued my interest and after driving a friends I was no longer looking for any other make/model.

A month of pricing and negotiating with BMW dealers around the country I ended up purchasing a loaded '15, 33k miles, for about $17k from a dealer just outside NYC. Love the car so far (it's been 2 days). I have lurked here a little, but always interested to hear others experiences with this ride. Things to watch out for? Words of wisdom? Whatever you got.

My first query is about what people are getting for real-world gas mileage. I was extra sold on the fuel economy of this engine relative to its power. But I am a little skeptical so far that I'll ever see anything within 5 mpg of its high end.

Sounds like good car / good deal. Ours was not far off in miles/price although bought in-family from my father.

Its a nice little car. I wouldn't put it on the list of the most fun post-2010 cars by any means but its not bad. Think of it as an E90 3-series chassis with an F30/32 engine wrapped in a Cute-UV package. That's actually pretty good because the E90 suspension is nice, the N20 is good, and you get it in a practical body style. My wife absolutely loves it short of like 3-4 things. 1. she's too short for its proportions, the pedals are too far away so she has to be way up on the wheel even with the column retracted fully, 2. doesn't like the sunroof/shade operation (can't independently run the shade, stuff like that), 3. some other issues w/ the locking systems and the remote which I don't recall...

No the mileage isn't quite as good as full rating, but its still respectable. Approaching 30 generally for us. Remarkable given that we have an A3 that's also a turbo 2.0L that is way smaller/lighter that struggles to near that.
ECOpro mode blows, almost useless except maybe when you're purely on long-cruise highway trip and can deal w it lugging all the time. Many have actually reported getting worse mileage when trying to use EcoPoo around town. Car drives like death with it on too, so, that's nearly useless - drive quality goes down and you don't really benefit from mileage hardly at all... so... just leave that off all the time is my suggestion. Also we leave auto-stop/start off most of the time mainly due to battery/starter wear and tear concerns. Our battery is probably approaching end of life and don't need to accelerate that. And we don't sit at long-light-wait or long-standstill-traffic much at all so there's next to no benefit mileage wise for us to have it on. If we do leave it on, in most of our sitautions, just as soon as it shuts off within a handful of seconds we are ready to go again. I'm sure the re-start enrichment and battery-recharge costs as much or more as whatever tiny droplet of gas you saved from the engine being off for 5 seconds.
