Our z4 came with bmw locking studs. I went to bmw today and got the correct key because a tire shop said the key it came with did not work. I verified the one it came w didnt fit and the replacement did. Tire shop called again to say the new key rounded off on account of the stud being over tightened. And effectively seized. Has anyone had a bmw locking stud removed without key in a situation like this ?
Having someone weld a normal bolt into the rounded cavity is the last resort. That gives you a hex head to work with.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
The question is does the locking lug nut have a spinning outer surface if not then the tire shop should have sockets to remove the locking lugs unless they are truly to tight I have a young tech who thought the lugnuts were on to tight and was going to attempt to gun them off I said don't do that get a 6 point socket with a breaker bar and a pice of pipe and use the leverage to feel what the lug bolts were doing, slowly they became loose, and don't use an impact gun on the locking lug nut adaptor, it will say on the packing.
^^^ good advice jclausen. Also driving an old socket on just slightly smaller than the OD of the locking bolt has worked for me in the past.

Thanks I ordered two new keys and will try breaking the bolts loose myself. You are correct the box says no impact.
Soak the nut with a good quality penetrating/lubricating oil overnight. Don’t use WD-40....
