So I have my car in a local reputable shop here for a couple items being repaired. One of the items I want to replace is on my outside ambient lighting LED bulb on the door handle of the car has gone out. The shop is claiming the whole door handle has to be replaced in order to fix the issue. No other way to address this issue anybody know of? The door handle is $450 and then needs painting and installation which is around another $250! Now though I just contacted shop and they are now saying door handle is not available, and are on back order so might not be able to repair at all....
Just buy a used handle from eBay. If you can get it the same color then no need to paint.

Comfort access door handles always come prepainted. They are a coded item and ordered like a key or any other security items. I change 2-3 CA door handles on F10's a month due normally for internal failures keeping the vehicle awake and discharging the battery. Yes BMW does not supply any internal components and the handle is fully potted anyway so you aren't getting into it for R&I. I'm assuming your shop is trying to order the unpainted handle as the cost is far far too much for the basic/nonCA/poverty spec door handle. Try ordering the correct color coded handle per the VIN.
