Saw Steam coming from Kidney Grille

So as I was doing my transmission service. And warming the fluid up to temp so I can top the tranny fluid off. I noticed steam from my kidney grill. Definitely smelled like coolant. Are the n55’s probe to coolant leak from this area?

They aren't prone to leaks really, but coolant can leak if an o-ring fails, or some plastic cracks.

Common areas to check: Radiator (usually the top0 crossover pipe, expansion tank seam, expansion tank cap, turbo coolant line orings.

Mine has the same problem. I think it can be related to some pore in the radiator...

My ex E82 had the same problem... I had to refill the coolant every 2 years or so.

I’ll have to check those areas. Would hate to get stranded far from home. Thanks. Funny thing is I did not notice it today. The temp was 15-25 degrees warmer than yesterday.

Even BMW all aluminum radiators leak, like the ones in e70's etc

Did a bunch of running around yesterday. Multiple trips. In town and highway and nothing. Haven’t seen it again.

Trust me its gonna show its face again. I own a 550i and had all my coolant issues just addressed for a hefty price. At first mine started just to steam out of kidney then it started doing it every time i drove it. My car has several coolant lines, and I am assuming you have a 02 525 if you have never had any coolant line issues or radiator issues your lucky. If its just a line leaking then you will be ok to address later, unless you are adding coolant every week, if it a radiator leak I would address it immediately. Also as the weather get cooler hoses contact and could just of leaked a little due to that. May need to tighten a hose clip.
