BEWARE of SCAMERS on the forum

I have recently been contacted by 3 scams after posting a WTB add. Be carful, this is how they do it:
-they send you private message informing you to contact someone at an email address they give you. Then you email them and they send you pictures but only accept payment with paypal gift or other insecure ways.

These are scamer and emails they use:

All joined the forum the same day they contacted me or a day before. The only safe way is to use paypal with buyer protection or better yet to meet in person with the seller.

Do NOT post your email address, “harvesting bots” crawl hundreds of sites in seconds, hackers and spammers obtain lists of email addresses by this, private info send by PM.
Important: In case you get such a PM, click in the PM at the bottom left the report button and report it, the mod team will take care of it and ban the scammers.
I repeat: when you get such PMs, that someone bought from .... and to contact..... (email address), REPORT the PM and the mods will take action. Click in the PM the report button report and report it, not here, when you report it, automatically the mod team will get info.

If you recieve an email from a new member with 0 posts referring a friend/email that has your needed parts beware. They had a few parts I needed and sent pictures but only purchased 1 to see if legit. They still haven't sent part and want me to order more to save on shipping. Beware as scammers like this that spoil the site for good people enjoying their love for cars.

But I guess is about pointless listing up what mail adr they use. Because they use so many and it is real easy to auto generate one new one for each scam with little efford.

They are so easy to spot tho. They even use pictures from this forum to illustrate the "part" they have for sale.
One even sent me pictures of wrong item and starting to try convincing me it was the right one I was after (first picture on Google using name of part I WTB). When I confronted them they sayd sorry, wrong picture. Here is the correct one.. That one was still the wrong part, and picture nr 2 from the Google search

Don’t buy anything from a new member. Even if not new, look at a few posts to make sure they are real posts and not generic or non responsive ones to build up a count. And always use a refundable payment system if you are not familiar with the person. All this is common sense. Online is the new Wild West—limited regulation, hard to catch bad guys.

Make sure to ask for a photo and then run that photo through a search on Google images. Just had someone try and scam me in my WTB ad. Sent me two photos he pulled from internet. Also look to see when they joined and how many posts they have made.

I've been scammed recently by a seller posing as John Sirk with a text only phone number of 805-807-9797. Hasn't sent the item due to various reasons and after dealing with him on this sale since 1/6/21, he no longer answers my inquiries. I used Venmo and tried to get a refund, but it appears he deleted the account @john-sirk-2. In future, I'll deal only through ebay with Paypal.

Glad I read this sticky. I got three replies to my WTB listing for side mirror covers, and all three met the scammer guidelines (no posts, recent join date, etc). So I followed the instructions and reported two of them, the other already had a red flag by his name about "license revoked". Thanks for watching over us!

One of the truck forums requires all "for sale" photos to include a piece of paper with the member's username and date written on it next to the item for sale. This policy prevents scammers from using random photos from the web, and since the scammers don't actually possess the parts they offer for sale, they're unable to shoot their own photos containing the required note.

other ones reported : I left my number in a WTB ad and was contacted by a dude who calls himself James from the number 919-925-3921. Whole thing was SUPER sketchy and raised a hundred red flags. I shut it down immediately, and clearly I won't be leaving my number in a WTB ad anymore.

Just a heads up -- someone is using the same # described above as being part of scams, 234-421-2773, to try to scam me on an MTECH bumper. The pictures he subsequently sent me of "his bumper" were easily reverse image searched to a 3 year old post for the same part from Singapore.

I reported his PM, but felt it worth posting here too. He had gone through the trouble of creating a "WTB" forum post looking for an E24 part .. clearly in efforts to appear like a real person.

The email address he asked for payment to was salatsafi10@gmail.com.
