Hi all, I'm in the process of buying an S50B32 and transmission from the U.K. to put in my '95 M3. Can anyone shine some light on what I would need to do for the swap? I run an auto body shop and have access to plenty of tools, resources, and am handy at working on my own cars. What I don't know how to do is the electrical. I see some people on here have posted about flipping the wiring harness with success and others say its a pain. I'm not even sure what that means to be honest, just flipping everything upside down which would be right side up for a LHD car? I'm in the Central Jersey area. Please let me know, thanks!
This is interesting, but I can't help with the info you need.
Just curious...At this point, why not go for an S54 and E46 trans?
I was thinking about swapping in an S54, but I want to keep the car era specific. I also heard the S50B32 is easier to maintain, but I could be wrong. PLUS, it would just be really badass to have a Euro spec engine in the car because there aren't many that have done the swap in the country.
Moving to the 1994 - 1999 Euro M3 (E36) discussion area. A good number of people have done this swap. Plenty of info in the past discussions.
Edit: Why not source a S50B32 from a LHD model car? Thats what we did and there were no issues with flipping harnesses are length, etc.

The Euro s50b30 is the better motor, and less complex.
Also less power, but some cams/airbox/exhaust/tune it will make more power.
I think m3 gt cams bump the car upto 300bhp

What makes S50B30 a better motor and less complex?
Alex L sourced the engine and six speed trans from a UK breaker.

I assume the single VANOS of the B30 is considered by some to be less reliable. I'm not sure how accurate that is in real life.
There's a lot of info in the stickies at the top of this area you would do well by reading.

I’m running the S50B32 (in my E30 swap). It was from a RHD. The harness was just long enough to reach the E30 LHD ECU location. Can’t comment on the E36 fitment. Have it mated to an E46 6-speed.
I replaced the rod bearings, water pump, thermostat, etc preventatively. The S50B32 needs the 5 bar fuel pump. The chip already had the EWS delete.
No issues with the VANOS (yet?). The S50B32 also has the dual oil pickup.
This is my track car. So it sees a good amount of high revs / WOT.

I don't think you will go wrong with either one. Both are cool period correct euro spec engines for the E36.
I've been happy with the swap. Outsourced the oil pan / subframe fabrication to keep the dual oil pickup. Did everything else myself. Here are some pics since you asked, but don't want to take it too off topic.
