Looks like my wife is picking up a nice 3.0si which is wearing 18in style 108s with summer tires. We are in New England and therefore looking either for a set of dedicated winter rims/tires or possibly to sell the 18s and trade down to something for which tires are a bit cheaper. I realize the 18's are likely desirable but we'll use the car for "real stuff" such as driving in cities etc and the 18s seem a little bit of a liability.
I'm new to this body style and generation of BMW (E30 guy) and have no idea which wheels fit. What are some good craigslist searches to find inexpensive winter wheels?
Thanks
I daily drive mine and I have 18's on it. No problems at all. If I were you and needed to drive it in the winter I would buy another set of tires/rims just for winter.
For all seasons do you use staggered sizes?
In the performance all season category:
I'm seeing Conti ExtremeContact DWS just under $700 for all four, 18s.
Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3+ a few bucks more
P Zero All Season Plus a few bucks less.
Inclined to the Germans...
My car has all season's on it and yes they are staggered. I personally like the Conti's as they have given good performance with little problems.
Thanks we will go that way. What's the market like for a set of staggered Conti Extreme Contact Summer tires (18in), installed in April of this year? Forget the exact brand - will take note of that tonite.
17" wheels with 225/45-17 tires fit the 3.0si fine. I drive mine through the winter wearing Nokian Hakkapelliitta Studded snows in that size (we live in northern coastal NE and get frozen fog / black ice ... studs have saved our butts a number of times).
Two places -
Tire Rack has a good selection that fit your car and you can “try them on” with their images.
Look at www.realoem.com and drill down to your Z4 and look in the wheels section.
Here is an example of OE recommended winter wheel in 17” - looks like you could run staggered or square with ET47 - ET50.
