    iDrive shot, No heat...

    Greetings All,

    2006 525xi

-iDrive has recently died and has black screen.
-After turning the temperature dial knobs to the highest possible setting (82 F), only cold air blows out of all possible vents.
-The car previously had a code for thermostat, so I figured that was the culprit. So, I have changed the thermostat and still no heat.
    -No coolant leaks.
    -A/C worked perfect this season.
    -Vehicle does not overheat.
    -No codes

    Questions:
    (1) Does iDrive settings need to be changed from “cold" to "hot"? (If so, is there a way to do this with the idrive being shot?)

    (2) If iDrive isn’t the culprit, what are other possibilities to troubleshoot?

    Thanks!

The Idrive crashed a few weeks ago.
Typical CCC failure. (Sending off for replacement tomorrow). To my understanding, there are settings in Idrive that could be causing this. However, I thought that the Idrive settings controlled center vents only.

My 06 525xi has 0 heat, but A/C works just fine.

Battery has been tested. It’s fine.

I am attaching 2 different links below.

The 1st link is the guy that I went with. Obviously, he is overseas and I am in USA, but the entire process was completed in less than 7 days. (The price that you're willing to pay at your post office will determine overall speed. Once he received my unit, he had completed the repair in under 24 hours. Then the unit was on its way back to me to install. No additional coding was needed. Plug and play.) BTW, the unit has been installed for approximately 4 months now. All is still well. No complaints.

The second link is to a guy who is in Florida. His prices are more expensive though. I chatted with the guy and he seems to know his stuff. But with the given price difference, I took my chances with the first link.https://www.ebay.com/itm/ANY-BMW-MIN...-/252977429658

    I hope this information helps.

I swear I recall reading somewhere recently where someone was able to repair themselves with little trouble.
Something about particular capacitors that go bad on the board?

    Anyone heard of this?

I am going to have to address this soon, too, but have other issues to address, first.

    Heater work?

Did your heater work after you had the CCC fixed?

Everything worked after the CCC was fixed. (There is a setting in “Climate” (I think that’s what it’s called) in which you have to make ensure that it is geared towards the red (indicating heat) vs blue (indicating cool).

From my research, I’ve found that it’s usually 1 or 2 culprits that can affect the heater, (given that your car isn’t exhibiting any other crazy symptoms). CCC or heater control valve. See attached link.

FYI, I had to replace mine apprx. 2 years ago or so because I wasn’t getting any heat, but it was a completely separate issue from when I didn’t have heat because of the CCC.

    Good luck.
