Hi all
My wife's S2000 has been lost to an accident and will be a write-off. She loved the car, it was her second, but they are getting much harder to find unmodified for a reasonable price. I drive an E30 and have always admired the E85/E86, N52 and they seem to be selling at reasonable prices. A few questions...
Presuming a 3.0si 6 speed...
Any major changes to consider between 2002-2008?
Any model-specific flaws to know about - hows the power convertible top in terms of the mechanism and potential rips ? That was a weak spot on S2000, both cars we had developed rips at the creases.
I am generally feature-adverse as I see things like adjustable suspension, pop out navigation, premium audio, motorized seats, xenon light etc as things to break. Wife also anxious moving from a nearly maintenance free 4 cyl Honda to something more complex. That said with older cars we always end up buying on condition and she needs a car soon. Are there any 'premium' features that are especially problematic or conversely, desirable?
The soft top motor is located in a daft location and fills up with water when the drains block. Many people relocate the motor to the boot/trunk. Do some research on that topic.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
I think the motor will give trouble regardless of whether or not it's exposed to moisture. My 03, has been garage kept for the 3 years I've had it, not a daily driver. The previous owner also kept it garaged.
If you want a N52 Si, you will be limited to the 2006-8 model years. Only detail changes from 06 to 07: factory aux adapter and the sticky steering was fixed. No changes from 07 to 08.
Thanks guys as it happened we found a very nice convertible and it will be coming our way this week. I’m sure I will be back to this forum often for advice
