    06 x3 oddity found

I have been chasing oils leaks but after a shop re-replaced my VC and VCG they broke the vent hose. After replacing it I still have a CEL and lean banks 1&2. I replaced the oil housing gasket and the SERP belt just bc it was old but still have CEL for lean banks. About to go back on their dime to find out why but not for a couple days. Would really like to figure it out. Last and most importantly while brake cleaning off the underside which was so easy to do bc they forgot to put my underside shield I noticed I could see something spinning between the oil pan and tranny and it looked like it should be covered. I didn’t have time to look again bc my 2 yr old came and dragged me away before I could look with engine off. It seems like a bad thing to have uncovered bc anything could get in there like mud or worse rocks. Anyone know what this is? I can’t find anything, not even a pic showing it. Kinda worried since I have to drive it

Sounds like the flywheel your seeing ther could have been a cover at some point they need to smoke check the intake system when the engine is cold not hot

Should I be worried about the flywheel? I am making the shop find the vac leak. Started at $275 for a VCG and ended at $600+ to replace the Combo and then the hose and now all that. I am just concerned about that flywheel being exposed

I don’t think that’s the flywheel just bc I’ve raced and rebuilt spec Miatas. This is odd. I will wait until I can lift again. It is not something I think should be open.

lean on bank 1 and 2 potentially points to a major vacuum leak. Start at the MAF and work your way towards the throttle body, cracks in the air intake boot can create that condition, another large source of leak is the DISA valve as well as any of the CCV hoses. Let us know what you find and hope this helps.
