Hello ladies & gentlemen,
I've recently purchsed a 1993 730iL for which I paid too much and have discovered that the previous owner had the ignition 'bypassed' via the installation of a push button start, which can be temperamental (read: car cuts out while driving and many things don't work!)
To add to this, I recently got stuck in an underground car park for three hours after having locked the car, only to find out that it couldn't be unlocked without the guile of a rather skillful locksmith whom I had to call out on a Sunday evening.
So, this leaves me in a situation where realistically, I need to change the ignition switch and the door locks (I also don't have the key for the passenger door) so I'm thinking that I may as well change all of the locks and get everything done at one time.
I've approached the last garage who had done some repairs to the car and asked about buying the complete lock set however, two weeks have passed and he has yet to find what I need, so I'm appealing to my new BMW family to see if this car will
a)be saved?
b)if I need to continue playing Russan Roulette every day?
OR
c) if I've lost my exhorbitant investment?
Do any of you kind and knowledgeable fellows know where I might get my hands on a complete lock set for my 730iL? I'm not expecting the parts to be cheap as this car was built in the last century but I'd rather not have to sell a body part to pay for it.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
Try Ebay.

I found this, but as the car is a '93, I believe the lock actuators to be different. So the doorlocks are also going to be different. But it gives you an idea of what to look for/potential price range.
Check the real oem parts catalog, I looked up for 93, 730 il using the june model for data look up:
here is the steering/lock key section, $55 to $90ish

and the door lock, is under body parts, $57ish
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=41_0700
and the trunk lock , $57ish

Is it possible to swap the keyed parts of an existing but broken ignition switch into another, functional switch? I'm asking because you can order keys from BMW if you have the VIN and if you can prove that you are the owner of the car. If you would replace the complete set of locks with a set from a parts car, you would lose the ability to order keys unless you also get the paperwork of the donor car.
I have a whole IR setup with 2 keys, one switchblade, one regular, both front door handles, column with ignition switch, and trunk lock. All keyed alike and already pulled from the car(1991 750) PM me and we'll talk about shipping and price. It's all already in a box and ready to go.
Thanks very much to all. Some very helpful info to add to my own research.
VWLeadfoot, I have sent you a PM but it doesn't register as being sent. If you don't receive anything soon, can you let me know and I'll try again.
I can see that parts for this car will be difficult to source in the future although I have found a couple of cars locally that are being broken so could be useful.
PM replied to. I also have the vin for the car they came from. Last seven were DC79246 if you'd like to do some research. let me know what you think.
