Hi everyone!
I'm a new owner of a 1978 530i E12.
It has about 80k miles on the clock and so far it runs fine.
The AC on it was already retrofitted when I bought it and recently I hooked up my gauges to the low and high pressure ports and it's empty.
I want to fill it up with some refrigerant but the problem is that I cannot see the AC or snowflake button near the climate control like I have in my E30 or my other cars anywhere on the climate control.
Here's what my climate control looks like:

Is it just as simple as turning the very left knob to cold?
I know it's a pretty stupid question but neither do I have the owner's manual nor I have found any info about this on the internet.
What year? I had a '76 530i and it was one knob to cold, the other knob to high and one round button that turned on the compressor. They changed it in 1977 and as I recall, there was no more button, if you moved the dial toward the cold side, the compressor would kick in.

First rule of BMW Ownership: Buy a BMW specific scanner!
My son has a 1977 630csi (E12 based). Simply turn the temperature knob all the way to full cold, and the compressor kicks in. I doubt that changed in 1978.
