The simple answer is you got the wrong sensor (maybe someone put the wrong sensor in the right box__many possible scenarios).

If it has to be done NOW, then splice. If it can wait while you get the right sensor, that's the optimal thing to do.

So, ALL THOSE TIMES, and ALL THOSE CARS that I spliced/soldered the O2 wires shouldn't be working? Hmmm (because they are; no phone calls tells me no DTCs...)

Do NOT cut and splice. It appears you are trying to fit a Titania Z3M sensor to a zirconia M52TU. Much heartache will happen if you mix the two.

I know I know. But all Z3s are the saaaaammmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Damn, nailed it. That's what I get for halfway reading a thread before ordering. I've ordered the right part

It can wait, car's been on jack stands for a few weeks anyway while I work on a few other things. Thanks!

In my defence, it was those power-hungry S54 owners and their European market exhaust headers__HAVE to extend the post-cat O2 sensors to nearer the position of the ones in the S52 cars. Belden 4-cond shielded/twisted pair cable for the extension.

    No complaints

No defense needed, your first suggestion was the right one (wrong part) Some day I'll know more about the big boy motors!

Extending wires isn't a problem. It's when the plug is different... There's a reason they made it different.
