    2015 320i: service cost at 40,000 miles

    Hi everyone,

I need to do the 40,000 miles maintenance on my 2015 BMW320i. The BMW dealership proposed 3 options and the cheapest costs $700. It includes replace engine oil and filter, replace engine air filter, rotate and balance tires, perform scoop check, reset condition based service (CBS) maintenance required light, install windshield washer solvent, PF44 install premium fuel system cleaner, perform visual multi-point inspection, perform interior disinfectant service and SR42 perform 4 wheel alignment.

$700 seems very expensive to primarily change oil and filter. I recently bought this car and the last oil change happened a year ago. Could you please tell me if $700 is reasonable or if it is overpriced?

    Thanks in advance!!

It's not a bad price (for a dealer) for what you listed. However, I've highlighted several items that are NOT required by BMW and are profit centers for the dealership. Read your manual (or download it to read it) to learn what is actually required.

What is a scoop check? Other than 4 wheel alignment, everything is a DIY. To reset the CBS, you need to get a BMW code reader, such as a Foxwell. Buying that and the oil, filters...will probably set you back $250. If you already had the Foxwell, maybe $100 in parts or most likely, less.

Thanks for your quick response! That's very helpful. Do you know how much it would be to do only the required services?

    Thanks again!

Thanks for your response! I have never done this myself and I don't really want to try as I don't know much about car maintenance... I appreciate your help though. Sorry it should be been scope check instead of scoop check!

Understood. If you want to save some money, you can go to an independent to have the work done, or do it piecemeal.

Probably in the $300 range. Some dealers have deals on oil changes for around $80, an air filter is cheap, and 1/2 hour labor is minimum to reset indicators. Multi-point inspections are free - they expect to find "problems" that they will then ask you to pay to fix.

Thank you both! I am going to ask the dealer the cost of the required services only and, if it's well above $300, I will ask an independent. That was very helpful, thanks again for your responses!
