My mechanic who was servicing my e31 put in 2 new batteries and got the terminals the wrong way around. Believe it I know.
I went straight there hoping the ecu wasn’t cooked and first thing checked the fuses. The fuel pump ones seem to be intact but when you turn the key the starter cranks but the engine will not fire. Which seems to certianly mean no fuel. Is there any way to check this??
does anyone have any thoughts or ideas
Check the fusible links near the RH side battery?
What exactly have you done? The fuse links can look okay to the eye and be bad. I haven't had this issue on mine but I think crank no start is a common symptom
From your reply I don't think you know what Fusible links are - there are two only - one clamped to the inner metalwork behind the right hand side battery in a plastic box, the second one is in black tubing in one of the RED wires leaving the right hand side battery.
I discuss them in this video at around 08:15:

Yes, that's good! The alternator usually saves the day - but it does kill it at the same time!
