Hi all....
I installed a remanunfactured power steering pump on my '98 M3 a few days ago. Drained fluid and replaced with Dexron III and flushed the system of air using the standard method. Repeated process a few times.
The new pump seems to be working normally except when the car comes to a stop. At full stop the steering wheel is really hard to turn. Since I am doing the project alone it's not possible for me to see if the belt is slipping. Possible belt contamination? I should point out that the serpentine belt and tensioners are new and were replaced about 1000 miles ago.
Prior to replacing the pump there were no signs of any belt slippage or any difficulty turning at low rpm. I replaced the pump because it was making an annoying noise (the shaft bearings were pretty shot when I took it off).
So now I'm a bit stuck. I have taken the car out for several test drives in hopes that the issue would resolve on its own, but no luck....
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
The only change in the whole picture is the rebuilt pump, what brand is it where did you get it, if the belt was having issues it should either make noise or smell if it was slipping. Get somebody to turn the steering wheel while you look at the pump if you put the old one back in and everything is fine then the rebuild pump is faulty
