Hello happy people! My Shifter knob is beat up and rearing and I'm looking to replace it. I bought a nice amazon one for $25 and then as I went to replace it, I found out that the knob/boot seems to be a single assemble. Oh Well. Amazon has easy returns!
What I'm looking for is a substantially lower cost alternative to an original BMW item such as this sold by Turnermotorsports (who happen to be within an hour of me). Any ideas or sources are greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance.

Additionally, I've read "good" things about a lower shift lever giving faster shifting. I do NOT race or track this car, it's a Sunday driver and generally driven pretty easy. So, is this a worthy change?

Are you talking about getting a short shifter? If so, then I would say don't, for it will make it harder to get into gear, and will feel knotcher in the process. Do I regret doing mine, nope as it is what I expected from factory in a car like this.

Thanks! I don't really need the shorter shifter, I'm just looking to replace a worn out knob, but not pay the huge BMW OEM cost!!! Of courst I want a "nice one" too.
Any and all ideas are welcome.
How the hell would you remove the old one and install the new one? I, too, need a new shift knob and boot.
