just picked myself up a two door 318ti e36 with the m44.. got to keep the SC parts. just stating to tear into it and put the SC on the m44 now! Going to keep a simmilar setup and run it like i did on the m43.. though i have to make a new bracket for the SC

So works been going well on the m44, rigged up a mount, attached the super charger, ran my fan belt, re-used the plumbing parts.. as well as the suction tubing. bought a 2" bent piece drilled a hole for the bov and mounted it. very simmilar to the other setup i had. just waiting on silicone to dry..I had a hole to block for the spider shaped injetor air thing. so i rammed the air temp snesor into that hole. figured it would be good to get a mesurement of air temps after the SC.. as it does warm the air up.

I needed to use the stock rubber maf boot as the intake on this one is a strange pear shaped one. my m43 had a round single throttle blade TB.. So yeah. see if it holds up. Im planning to buy an elbow and use left over 3" piping to drop the CAI into the fenderwell. one thing i never got around to doing in the other car.

Im going to visit the scrapyard tommrow and grab a radiator fan, possible one from the e46.. as it sits flush with the radiator but my 318ti sits futher out.. if i cant make this work i'll just buy a generic bolt on rad fan..

I may also look into putting in the m43 intake and throttle body if the scrap yard has one.. the setup just seems so much better. and simpler.. but one step at a time eh! Below is the bracket i built to attach the sc in a simmilar spot to my m43.. about 2 days of work went into making that stupid bracket. measuring cutting, fuckign up grinding, and then adding the tentioner pullly lol.
Didnt take any pictures of the assembly of this one. its very simmilar to what i posted before. but will update soon!

You can extend the life of the nonreinforced HFM to TB boot by adding a zip tie every 1/2” to 1”. With boost it will blow up and leak.

For the E36 6 cylinder, yes. For the 318i, I don’t know. Google silicone elbow 2.5 to 3 inch or something like that. For the 325i you can find them with nipples for the idle control valve.

see the difference between my m43 and this m44 is that the TB opening is.. pear shaped. tb.JPG
Tried to fit over a 3" silicone onto it, but its about 1/2" too short and the silicone doesn't stretch easily.
Hence the reason i may swap to a tb from a different model.

I also just took it for a rip. and it pushed hard. almost broke traction with one rear wheel lol

Or try a 3 to 3.5. Measure what you need at both ends. Silicone will flex. 2 or 3 ply is fine for your boost.

found a 3.5" one this will work ideally. going to put in the intercooker i picked up for 15 bucks into it.. since its not gonna be in an ideal location, i will run a cheap little 7" radiator fan to help pull air through it. Picking up the joiner i need tomorrow for 29 bucks, gonna look something like that.intercooker.jpg

The intercoolers banged up, but still holds air. so hey

Awesome story, got to like being able to goof around for basically free with what you go for your first car. What this really needs is at least one if not several of those squeaky chicken heads hooked up to it, you might get different tones if you make the necks different lengths lol

That'd be hilarious with those chickens. i haven't seen them for sale for a while now though.

So the inter-coolers in, its not getting much flow as its sitting right under the hood. i may buy a hood from the scrap and make a subaru style cowl to ram air into it. Ive done it with my last intercooled vw. it actually worked quite well.old intercooler.jpg

Ive been tinkering with the new bimmer, threw the boost guage in, and just installed an overdrive pulley. giving the SC a 3.25: 1 ratio. the sc pulley being a 2" and the crank pulley now a 6.5" pulley. and now i just ordered a 1.75" pulley to spin it even quicker. The Amr500 is rated to a 16500 max continous rpm speed. figure the car cruises are about 3500 rpm, so it should be fine. redlining will spin it above 20k rpm, be pretty nuts.

With this current setup its showing about 1.5-3psi of boost. be nice to hit 4-5 psi or so.

This projects come a long way, working with two different motors, the m44 and the m43.. i can defintely say hands down the m44 is a much better candidate for a FI setup. Its been a fun project, swichign cars halfway through, defintely enjoying the new one more.. though having a two door is a bit strange to get used to. Its great seing positive pressure on the boost guage, and its freaking loud when in urban areas and the SC is spinning frantically. Though most people look at the car and think theres an alternator bearing or something wrong with it lol.

Oh and i ditched te stock m44 electric fan my car came with.. and took a slim one from a toyota. the e46 318i rad fan wont fit the m44 ti radiator. so i just made some custom brackets and cut the yota radiato fan to fit. and spliced it into the oem electric fan wiring.

drilling holes on the water pump pulley to match the oem pulley spots was a bit tricky, i messed up the first holes and had a major wobbly pulley, i used a 3" od pipe ( actually 3" alluminum intake pipe i had excess) cut down to about 1" as a spacer and got longer bolts to bolt the pulley on, , i drilled more holes and it was less wobbly. still wobbles a teensy amount, but considering im using hand tools its the best i could do. but seems to work, an its an aluminum pulley, so not much weight to it. dont notice anything while driving. i used lock washers and red locktite to keep that sucker on there.

Its showing 3 psi of boost around 3500 rpm, has alot more torque, and can actually squeek the back tires on acceleration once the SC spins up, it is an open diff, neutral dropping it at about 3k will get a tire spinning. gotta love leaving 1's down the road eh

Okay real talk now, plans are to add in a fan to the inter cooler to help with air circulation, put the CAI down in the bumper area, although i'll need to build a shield for it as my car doesn't have fog lights (Previous owner took them out, be a good vacuum to suck rain in lol, prob make some blanking plates out of aluminum sheets)

got my tiny pulley; its gonna go on tommrow, ive gotta rent a impact gun to remove the nut, then file in a keyway to the new pulley this should give it a much better ratio. pushing the limits of the SC.

Sweet, pulley is in its boosting around 4-5psi now, though i am having a new issue now under boost.

The motor will choke and sputter if i go full out, also it will die if i give more then 1/2 throttle from stopped. if i go easy on the throttle it will go and get up to speed, then once rolling can be hammered down and it pushes hard.

I pulled the sparks and they are covered in sooty carbon, seeming to be running rich. im going to put a new RRFPR in tommrow, see if that will help. also i need to redo my charge pipe.. the cheap vacuum hose i picked up is getting really hot with the heat the SC makes..and is getting really soft lol.

Sooooooo another update, I Put in a proper SARD pressure regulator, it works nicely. I wired up my Efan to a switch, aswell as the thermostat switch. giving me the option when to turn it on, i was having heat issues.. so i also created and put in a fan and shroud onto the intercooler to help pass air around, and also took out the hood lining. its running better then before and is actually able to spin a tire
