replacement sealing gasket for cut ring head gasket sets group buy

Hey guys, I have been talking with a contact I have at Athena to get replacement sealing gaskets for the cutring gasket sets. It always seamed silly to me to have to pay $250 for a whole new cutring set when all you really need is the sealing gasket, not the rings. Well I got them to agree to sell them seperately. They quoted me a price of $140 each, or $119 if I buy 10 or more. Shipping is extra and you have to set up an account with them to buy direct. Anybody want to do a group buy on these? I am not going to buy $1200 worth of gaskets on my own, but if I can get enough people in on a group buy it will be worth it. For it to be worth my while and cover shipping to me and shipping to you I would need like a $40 handling fee to repackage and ship them, so $120 per gasket + $40. $160 for 1 or $280 for 2, ect.. Anybody want in? I would need paypal payment before I order them.

These will fit all bore sizes for SCE, Athena, and JE cutring sets. They are all made by Athena.

    Doing real work

Agree so silly that you cannot get replacement gaskets.

replacement sealing gasket for cut ring head gasket sets group buy

While we’re on the topic of cut ring gaskets- does this mean the sealing gasket has to be replaced every time you take the head off?

I recently installed one, took the car down the road, blew four ringlands and limped back into the garage and took the motor back apart. The gasket literally has ten minutes on it.

    It looks *ok*

    Sorry to thread jack

I honestly don't know the answer to that, but I would suspect that it probably would not seal again since its compressed. Usually if they have been in there for any length of time pieces of the gasket come off stuck to the head and block. I have wanted to try reusing one with copper spray on both sides.

Another thing I have tried in the garage is super gluing the rings to the head in the grooves so I don't have to skim the head each time, but haven't tried putting one together that way.

Had three or four chunks come off with the gasket.

Sucks, just spent $250 on this thing and now another $160.

People have had good success with the stock HG and E85, no? I’m running the corn juice.

I ran a stock gasket with 11mm studs up around 850 whp. Eventually leaned it out and bent the rods but the gasket stayed in the motor. This was with a properly prepped block and head and 11mm studs though. The one thing I don't like about stock gaskets is that I have always gotten a little water in my overflow with stock gaskets and never get any at all with the cut ring gaskets.

I assume shipping to Australia would be a killer to make this affordable unfortunately

Sadly, I'd say that you're correct. Still, I'm guessing that Perry will probably do better with shipping than a shop selling a complete cut-ring set. Perry, how much to send it to Aus?

Off topic, but I bought some Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax yesterday - $55AUD ($37USD). In the USA, it can be had for $15USD.

Assuming the package is about 3 lbs I could ship it for like an extra $20. I could probably ship a few of them in the same package for the same price.

I assume you can do another run sometime down the track? If so, i'll hold off for now as I already have a complete spare cutring gasket I can use if need be. I'll also gauge interest in Aus to see if it's something people will be interested in and will let you know!

I don’t know that for certain but I am hopeful that they will continue letting us buy them after showing them that there is demand for them. This took a good deal of effort to get them to sell me them.

Yeah fair enough, good work on getting the deal and good to see you got the numbers! Hopefully it comes up again in the future as i'll likely be down to grab a few from you then.

I’m hoping to hand this off to another retailer since I’m not in the retail business and this frankly is not worth the time spent trying to pedal gaskets for no profit, but yeah I don’t have any assurances that that will happen or what future pricing may be. My real goal with this was to get them to create a part number for the gasket that any SCE dealer could order in the future. The part number for the gasket body is E330012R, so hopefully they will honor orders for them in the future.

That’s me. I asked John from CES if he wanted to get in on the group buy so I bought 10 and he bought 40.

Do you have any more of these CSE Athena "Gaskets Only" for S52 87mm? Just finished my total rebuild but unfortunately my first cutring gasket failed right away because I made the mistake of torquing to the ARP spec 75lbs as apposed to not seeing the suggested 85lbs from several respected builders prior. I tried the individual loosen and re-torque to 85lbs but I think the damage was done from the initial water and oil seeping through breaking the seal, Still losing water and oil when engine gets to temp. Thanks

I'm planning to install one of these down the road, but I've got the raceware fasteners for the m54 (i have the EU aluminum block M52) which calls for 42 ft lbs..

Will the cutting ring not seal properly?

You believe the gasket failed because you went 'only' to ARP's spec of 75?

That would be a hard no for me for the reason of failure.
