2009 650i IVM replacement, plugs very difficult to release, any help?

I have everything off to get to the IVM and i have the new IVM but I can't find the trick to get the plugs to release from the box. They simply do not want to come out. I am, of course, worried about breaking them by not knowing what ever trick there is. Can someone who has done this give me any tips. I'm stuck if i can't get them out, as you might imagine.

2009 650 i convertible. Great car till it decided to just randomly stop running for random periods of time.

They should have a lever on each plug that you lift up in a semi circular upward motion. Lifting the lever will lift the plug up partway then lift out the plug. No force needed at all.

I don't think the IVM has that style of locking connector. I think it just has a release tab you press and then pull the connector off.

Try using a small screwdriver to put pressure on the connector while pressing the release tab.
