I saw a bunch of m’s and 335’s at today’s cars and coffee in Kailua.
Anyone else around on the island? I’m trying to see if there are other clubs/forums/fb groups etc for local bmw owners.
I'm still here. lol
I just moved here last month!
Sorry for 20 questions but I didn’t grow up here and everyone I know here doesn’t care for cars. My wife did but she has no idea about these things either.
Any recommendations for mechanics? Work done on my m roadster for the last year was at BME by the PO. I’m in between on them for various reasons but they’ve been suggested a few times. Def not using the dealer. My CPO experience has been horrible to date.
Talked to Scott at German Auto Specialists but he’s nearing retirement and no longer doing bigger projects like rod bearings or subframe reinforcement. Ken at Hawaii Vintage Workshop was recommended by someone with an e46 m3 at cars and coffee.
I’m also looking for a good autobody shop. I want to get my front bumper holes filled & resprayed, possibly the hood to clear up the rock chips. BMW took my i3 to get a door panel resprayed when I bought the car but it wasnt a perfect job and they didnt put my door seals on properly. Bmw didnt notice and I had to bring it back another day for them to put it back on properly.
Edit: saw the sticky but it’s from 2013. My wife grew up here but her and everyone else I know here are not car people. The ones I know with nice cars just lease and take them in to the dealer.
Hmm... I wrote a whole lot but it didn’t post.
Who would you go to today for autobody work? Good mechanic?
PO of my m roadster went to BME. Bought it from him early this month. I’m in between on them. Rick is nice but looking through the service records, they “fixed” some things recently but it’s not entirely fixed. They said they’d look it over when I come in.
Spoke with Scott at German Auto Specialists but he said he’s retiring. Not taking bigger jobs (rod bearings, subframe reinforcement) and focusing on his current clients before he does.
Autobody suggestion? I don’t want to use who BMW of honolulu used. Not sure who it is tho, they wouldn’t tell me. I negotiated for my CPO i3’s door to be resprayed and they did but it wasn’t perfect. There’s a circle about 2mm without paint and they didn’t put my window seal on properly. Had to take it back to BMW for them to fix the seal. They wouldn’t fix the dot. Better than what it was but oh well. I think they can do good work but maybe don’t if the client is the dealer. BMW’s wheel repair guy is good tho. They fixed my curb rashed wheels on purchase.
Not a fan of some people at the service dept at the dealer either. So many issues with them not scheduling me even after asking multiple times that they really put it in. They confirm, I show up and what do you know, not in the books. Loaner car issues etc. Tried to upsell ICE services to me for my electric only i3 no range extender. Ended up meeting the service manager because of all the other issues I’ve had with them.
I just need some competency and honesty in my life. I want things to be done properly the first time and not have to go back because they forgot something or didn’t do a good job because they rushed etc.
thanks

Yes but we just sold the last M3. Q7 was needed. Also just sold the big island house and the Oahu house is on the market. 38+years is enough. We want to live, not survive. Texas is now home. I have no blood family left, and my wife's family all have children and such, so we will always spend holidays home but, it's already a huge improvement in quality if life. So the years of planning have paid off... and..9 road courses all inside if 3 hours. Did pick up an insanely clean 86 325is..... sooo, next project car lol. But i lurk.

Hi, a little late to this thread but there's a group called OECC here. Oahu European Car Club. They have a pretty good list of resources so if you join and post up your questions I'm sure they can help you out or steer you in the right direction. Good luck!
I brought my Turbo E36 here about 2 years ago but hardly drive it, too nice not to ride my motorcycle.

I'm still here although this section is less than slow. Speaking of automotive activity, Maui SCCA is about to enter our seventeenth year of Solo events. Once a month, January through October we rock it. Literally. Photos here.
And for those that like to stand around and look at cars parked, there's the monthly Maui Car & Coffee. Both have a FB presence.

hi I need one ac schnitzer type 3 split rim 18x8.5 please help if can thanks
It's too bad there's no interisland superferry anymore. I'm familiar with the local SCCA here for rally-x at Kualoa Ranch and auto-x at Aloha Stadium. I've been to a cars and coffee here but was looking more for a BMW specific group for things like group wrench days etc. I met a few owners at C&C but none of them wrench. Miata clubs have that here. It'll be a few years before the new track is built but it's looking like it's finally happening.

Howdy.
I understand that a few fellows may be making a drive to the summit of Haleakala sometime soon.
FWIW if you're in the area.

I’m still in Virginia, but will probably be back this summer sometime after I get my second covid vaccination shot, whenever that may be. Mom’s been complaining about missing Hawaii pretty much non-stop since we left, so we’re moving back. I’m not thrilled about it, especially on the employment front, but I figure I won’t have any peace otherwise. Hey Beastie!
And then there was one...
