    2000 BMW 5 Series 528iT Manual 5 spd

    SOLD!
This is a 2000 BMW 528i Touring Wagon which has a M54b30 3.0 liter engine swapped into it along with a 5-Speed Manual ZF Transmission. Kassel Performance set up the DME for a little extra oomph but still using the 2000 Throttle body, fuel rail, etc. The Engine is at about 150k miles and the chassis has 146k miles. It also has the M sport steering wheel along with the sport package front seats. New PA inspection. Runs and drives well. The CEL is on for an EVAP code. The exterior color is Titan Silver (BMW Paint code 354). The Interior is Gray Leather (BMW upholstery code N6TT) with wood trim. The trim is starting to crack at some places and the leather has a few minor cracking in the front seats. Besides that the interior is in good condition. Exterior has some minor scratches and small dings.

Hey I might be interested, I live in Philly. Do you ever come down here? If not I can try to make it out to you. Feel free to hit me up on here or email me at philbegas@gmail.com, I'd rather not put my phone number on the forums.

I sometimes travel to Philly, yes. I'm almost always available during the week if you want to stop by. I work at Prussian Motors in Norristown.

Might put this on BAT and send it, no-reserve. What do you think it will go for?

And also consider it is a swap with smaller wheels than the Sport Package came with. They may not even take the car... so I wouldn't count on that as a definite.

They like pretty photos and the cars need a lot of documentation, especially when they are swapped.

I own a 5 speed swapped E34 Touring and can tell you what I would look for if buying your car. The chassis has a lot of miles on it and the E39 Touring rear suspension is known to have some significant issues when it ages. For your asking price, I would want to know if the front and rear suspension had been refreshed with new rubber bushings and at what mileage that was done. In particular, I would want proof that the rear subframe bushings had been replaced. At 146K miles, if they are original, they are almost certainly trashed. This was the case with my E34 and from what I know, the E39 rear SF bushings are much harder to replace.

I would want to know if the rear air suspension was functioning properly and if it had been serviced during your ownership.

I would want to know if the CCV system had been replaced on the M54 engine. Once again at high mileage in northeastern climate, they are almost always leaking if not replaced. (I have owned 2 E39 530i's and speak from personal experience.)

I would want to know if the oil filter housing gasket had been replaced.

I would want to know if the anti-lock brake system computer had been replaced.

I would want to know if the Takata air bag had been replaced on the Sport steering wheel. Given that your car did not come with this steering wheel originally, it was not covered under the factory recall.

These are just some of the basic E39 issues that are common. If you have documented proof that these things have been serviced, then I expect you could get a very good result if you list it on Bring A Trailer and possibly get more than your asking price here. On the flip side, if you don't have documented proof that these things have been taken care of, I doubt you will be able to get more than $2500 unless the buyer is not very knowledgeable.

You did a great job of breaking it down. I looked at an E46 touring that the same seller was getting rid of back in 2015/2016 and passed because things like suspension bushings had not been sorted. Hopefully this car has been.

    Hey Guys!

    Thank you for the responses.

I hear you on if BAT will accept it or not. I figure if I posted it with No Reserve, they would. My thoughts are it would go around my asking price on here. It’s not a low mileage car that will catch 5 figures, obviously. Just a great driver car. I personally think the e39 BMW is one of the best cars ever built. (Ever) Not much better than a 5spd version. =) Why wouldn’t BAT want one of those?! They let me list my e46m3 turbo on there and are itching to list my 01 m coupe! I’m sure they’d take this touring if I asked.

I hear you though. Most of the real BAT bidders seem to be collectors that want low mileage/original. Funny it’s strayed from its origins so much. (Bring a trailer, cause it don’t run!)

    As for specifics:

A couple front links have been replaced and an alignment was done a couple months ago. One of the rear bearing is now getting loud. Rear suspension airbag system is functioning normally. No service during my ownership.

Good question on the CCV. It has not been replaced and may actually have to do with the check engine light. Just started looking in to that.

OFH gasket was replaced when we had the engine out.

ABS computer has not been replaced.

I ran 3 cars over to Devon Hill BMW last year for airbags, but I can’t recall if this was one of them. I know my m3, the 04 330xi 6spd I have for sale was, but I think the third car was my m5, not this touring. Good question. However, I did not swap the steering wheel on this touring.

Which e46 touring was I selling in 2015/2016? That wasn’t the 04 325xi 5spd that I was attempting the S54 swap in, was it? I put new Bilstein’s on all 4 corner of that car.

I just ran the VIN and this car shows as coming equipped from the factory with that steering wheel:

    VIN WBADP6347YBV64823
S710A M Sports Steering Wheel Multifunction

This is a super interesting swap. Almost exactly what I would build if I were not currently obsessed/swamped with 24 Hours of Lemons cars, like these:

To the OP: I sent you a PM. It's a long shot, but I'm interested...

I kinda forgot about this car. I've picked up a few cars since then, and the new beater is a 2011 e91. This manual e39t is still for sale. =)
